Since it’s pride month, in this week’s episode I talk about my coming out story; the messy after math, what prompted me to come out and what I’ve learnt.
Queer people have existed from the beginning of time, so have South Asian queers. I strongly believe there needs to be better representation, so that my 12-year-old Amma self doesn’t think something’s wrong with her, and future generations can feel safe and confident enough to live authentically.
If you’re brown/ ethnic/ have a troubled relationship with your parents, you’ll know that familiar feeling of it’s complicated and we love them anyways kind of thing. One minuet you’re being called a disappointment and the next you're being fed samosas.
Just a reminder, you’re not alone…
Queer safety is key so it can still be scary at times being this open, but it’s a journey to say the least, so I’m proud to say I’M SOUTH ASAIN AND QUEER!
PSA: If you’re one of my close haters cough cough chat shit aunties and uncles please do one, because my dad will punch you for me xoxo :)
Thank you as always,
Enjoy!
