I am joined by Neil Hudson-Basing, London based events manager working with the fantastic WE CREATE SPACE 🌟, host of ‘𝑷𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒆𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒅...” which you can find on Spotify or wherever you listen to your podcasts 🎙️😃🔗, talking weekly with change makers, thought leaders & role models who all share a common goal. Making the world a more inclusive place ⭐.
📔 This week Neil takes us through the chapters of his diary, opening up about his journey with finding a sense of belonging and comfortability within himself.
Growing up in Essex, Neil talks about the how he´s been able to draw from his fun, creative side from childhood, which wasn´t always easy with family turbulence and moving to Lincolnshire in time for his teens, away from the comforts he´d grown up with to home often centered around fear & shame.
Those formulative years were surrounded by the feeling of having to grow up quickly, bullying and feeling the need to escape. The surroundings and feelings from that time are significant for us in shaping our mental health and for Neil, as he returned to Essex, grappling with feelings of depression, he talks how being taken to a Christian school affected him, and the homophobia of school/sixth form life being difficult to manage before starting to find his voice in college 🏫.
As he found his voice, he talks about his experiences at UCL, the vibrant inclusivity of London in the early 00´s, and also his journey with finding himself in bouts of depression, toxic relationships, and the hazy road that led him into Event Management, talking about his story in embracing a sober life 👏.
Fast-forward to the present and Neil is creating fantastic events for the Queer community, vibrantly smashing it on & off the dance-floor and has created a fantastic, queer-led social event that you can check out on Insta at @houseofhappinessofficial, 𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘚𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵-𝘈𝘠!!
