They are the stanchions for the old East Suffolk line where, believe it or not, St Olaves junction served a busy station and a crossing of two lines - It was a single track swing bridge. Luckily the current East Suffolk line was saved as is now. The original line crossed the Waveney and the bridge you passed, was operated from the Haddicoe High Level Station - which is still visible and the control box now a private dwelling - there is a map on my vid 'Navigating the Broads with a 130year old guide book,' which shows the old line! Another great upload Rich and Lisa...

Thank you for your insightful comment on my KZitem channel. I appreciate your knowledge and enthusiasm for the history of the East Suffolk line and the St Olaves junction. It's fascinating to learn about the significance of the stanchions and their connection to the old East Suffolk line. I find it remarkable that St Olaves junction served a busy station and was home to a crossing of two lines, particularly considering it was a single track swing bridge. The preservation of the current East Suffolk line is indeed fortunate. I'm intrigued by your mention of the Haddicoe High Level Station and its current state as a visible structure, with the control box now functioning as a private dwelling. It must be quite an experience to witness these remnants of the past. I'll be sure to check out the map you referenced in your video titled 'Navigating the Broads with a 130-year-old guide book' to further explore the old line. Thank you for your kind words on my upload. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm grateful for your contribution to the discussion. Your insights add depth and context to the historical significance of the area. Once again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and for being a valued member of our community. I look forward to more engaging conversations in the future. Best regards, Rich and Lisa Ps looking forward to seeing you and Dawn soon

Please don’t use ‘pokey stick’ (I assume you mean a boat hook) to fend off other boats. It’s not its purpose and can damage the other boats. Its meant for hooking, retrieving things.

Thank you for your comment and concern. You are correct that using a boat hook, also known as a pokey stick by Lisa, to fend off other boats is not its intended purpose. Its primary function is to hook and retrieve objects. Using a boat hook inappropriately can indeed cause damage to other boats and should be avoided. It's important to use the appropriate equipment and techniques for safely maneuvering and docking boats, such as fenders or bumpers designed specifically for that purpose. Safety and responsible boating practices are crucial to ensure the well-being of both your vessel and others around you.
