Danny Thomas and Jamie Farr are Lebanon’s Hollywood contingent. My Dad was a US Embassy attaché in Lebanon from 1961-64, and I was born in Beirut. That’s the only thing Keanu Reeves and I have in common. I see the Lebanese flag in the front windows of businesses around town and it reminds me of when Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East. My folks knew all the best cafes and restaurants of the Beirut of the era, all Mom n’ Pop operations where whole families worked. I’ve never been able to make a trip back, but that Beirut is long gone. Glad you were able to save a piece of the Thomas home-he had a reputation of being a very classy, nice guy.

My grandparents lived on Hillcrest also and moved in about the same time as Danny & Rosemary Thomas. Danny and my grandfather were very close, so much so that Danny created a trail from the side of his back yard down to my grandfather's art studio. Truesdale was so spectacular in the 70's-90's. Still is, just lost some of its innocence and there's alot of new money (no class, pricks, dicks, "look at me" people), like all of Beverly Hills. There are many reasons that come to mind, including tax purposes. For example, the mega rich want to leave money for the heirs without paying Inheritance / Estate Tax (estates of above 12.06 million is where the taxes start). Buy a house like this, which really means the land it sits on, tear down and rebuilding allows you to shelter the money spent as most likely a property this price will resell for the same or more. Another reason is the more obvious; money laundering. -Which, in my opinion, is the same as what happens legally as per what described in Inheritance/Estate Tax

Liza Minelli's father's old mansion stood vacant for many years after his wife died, long enough for Liza to have save it, but as far as I know, it was eventually stripped out and renovated? Lucille Ball's old mansion sat vacant for a while and was renovated in such a manner that you can still see outline of original house, which is good. Plus, the remodel was nicely done...*

Danny Thomas I also found was a TV Show Producer with Aaron Spelling where he produced the TV Show “Mod Squad” in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Danny Thomas died in 1992 and he was cremated after his death and his remains are interred at the St. Jude Hospital Grounds in Nashville, Tennessee.

With exceptions for only one in a million private residences, every owner -- even cultural icons -- is a temporary caretaker for any home. We feel badly about the loss of a home because we imagine every home to be a personal monument that should be preserved forever. Starkly put, we need to get over ourselves and let most historical homes be demolished and replaced with new homes that might become landmarks in the future. @@CRF-ds7ie

I remember my parents & I visiting Rosemary Clooney's mansion in Beverly Hills when I was five. My Dad & Rosie's mother Frances were old friends & former neighbors in Maysville, so they had a nice visit. I recall there was a grand piano in the living room, one of Rosie's elder daughters picked me up just to prove that she could lift me, but I really only have vague memories of Rosemary's two sons who were closest to my age, Miguel & Gabe. Rosie wasn't home the day we visited, but I now realize this was during her time in rehab back in the early 60s. Of course in later years, after she returned to Maysville to have her wedding with Dante, she then later had a home in nearby Augusta, KY, to be near her brother, Nick (George's Dad). The home in Augusta still stands & is now a museum. One other thing I remember from the visit to Beverly Hills, Lucille Ball lived relatively nearby, but on the opposite side of the street. We happened to stop by there because it looked as if someone was there, & we needed directions. A girl answered the door & gave my Mom directions to Rosie's house. It turned out to be Lucille Ball's daughter, Lucie Arnaz. It's sad to think that many of those beautiful Beverly Hills homes are no more. Fortunately, in the area of Maysville & Augusta, Kentucky, people appreciate the value of preserving & restoring old homes & buildings from a bygone era, although the "Urban Renewal" program of the LBJ years destroyed a fair amount of historically significant real estate.

@@CRF-ds7ie ps ~ my daughter and I have yet to meet any Caren or Karen we did not like, so not even sure where the term came from. More obscure, the male term is a Eugene! That house is so iconic, not many like it. There's an era getting so wiped away, 60's architecture. So glad you had filmed it. Wonder why Marlo let it go?! Thank you ~

How sad that his family was not allowed to somehow remove the family crest (and perhaps the rose bush?) and relocate them. He was born in Deerfield, MI where my father was born and the family knew them. And my mom was born in Dundee, Mi where her family was good friends with Danny's aunt and Uncle and all their children. I remember going to visit them as a kid after they moved to VT. I was SURE that his cousin was kidding me--and that HE really was Danny Thomas! lol

That’s great that your family knew some of the Thomas family! I think they had a chance to take the family crest and didn’t. I’m not sure why, but I know the grandson had been there to visit before they demolished it and I’m sure he could have taken it or made an offer. But that’s just a guess. Thanks so much for watching!

So sad that these houses are demolished... Given that it was built in the '60s, there could be a really good chance that there was a significant amount of asbestos used in the construction...and thus making it a health hazard. 🤔🤷
