Dear Helen, I loved every part of this podcast and the 25/30 mins time is perfect for me. I like the fact that you show us the process, with trial and error along the way and redoing things when they are not going well. Even if something is not absolutely perfect, it has personality. I'm working on knitted blanket squares for a community project for homeless people - they need to be 20 cm square, and I've been trying different stitch patterns to increase my knowledge - but have had to redo a few, as different stitches end up as different sizes! I don't have a swift and wool winder as I usually buy ready-wound yarn, but it was useful to see yours in action. Do you have a video on winding a ball by hand? I love Snaefrith's outfit, especially the fact that it is recycled from previous garments. I'm sure that's what they did in Orkney, or probably still do!
@mousiemakespod
3 күн бұрын
Thank you, Maureen - I'm so glad you enjoyed watching today! It sounds like fun to be trying different stitch patterns for your squares, even if they don't necessarily turn out to be the required size. I think that sounds like a good idea for a video, to show the way I wind balls of yarn by hand! And you're right that in Orkney, archaeologists found proof that clothing items were repurposed into new items! xx

Let’s see -- what’s my favorite project you’ve shown us? Why, all of them😍. I hope to see Snaefrith get a chance to visit her homeland someday. All the yarns for gloves and socks are beautiful, but I especially liked your blanket. It is so colorful and soft looking, a welcome cover for the cold winter days ahead. Autumn is finally coming to our state of Colorado; we do have remarkable colors here. But I grew up in the Midwest and I think the hardwoods have the best color. My memories of that make Autumn my favorite season. Nice crunchy leaves😂. Looking forward to your little brown sheep xx

A lovely catch up on your 'makes' Helen, you have been busy. Skaefrith looks like a true ancient orcadian in her outfit. I know what you mean about Autumn and the days getting shorter, i feel the same but do like the autumnal colours. Always think it's because i was a Spring baby but i love that time of year with everything spiringing to life and the return of warm (hopefully) and longer days. Hope you will look on this as constructive rather than being picky, I think the problem with Anghared's nose/mouth is that because it is a cross she doesn't have a smile like the other sheep where the bottom part goes out to the side but she will be fine if you really can't face unpicking again 😊. Have a good week x

Thanks, Yvonne - and I think you're right about the sheep's nose needing to be a darker colour and a bit smaller! The blanket stitch I'm using is V-stitch and it makes a very beautiful, drapey fabric.
