Tbh I saved this video for when I got my compass. Finally did a week ago and it is wayyy heavier than I anticipated (being the lightest of the Hobie fishing kayaks). I thought 68 pounds would be easy to lift. It was also wayyy longer than I thought it would be. So you can understand my shock in rewatching this video and seeing you lift it over your head in one swoop. Incredible

I was lucky I never dropped it and took the mirror off the car. One mistake in the balance point would be all it would take. The loader is definitely the way to go.

Wow, how can you afford a Hobie when you call in sick all the time? Actually thank you for the tip I wanted the compass but I'm 70 years old and wasn't sure if I could load it but because I watched this video I know I can thank you. Oh, I'm retired I don't have to call in anymore lol.

Lol, some book sales and one of those government stimulus checks where they gave me back some of my taxes paid for it. 🤣😂🤣😂 But.....I get paid for my sick days, so...🤷♂️

Glad you got the loader, Mark. Still waiting on mine. I tow a fifth wheel trailer and truck top my compass so it's not as bad for me as I go over the tailgate but in the one time I've had the yak in the water how much I need that loader.

Oof! That made me sweat. Not just from the idea of hefting it around but also, I broke my nose and orbital socket experimenting with car topping my kayak off the back like that. Yikes!! (mine is an Outback so it’s heavier than the Compass, but still!)

At 2:10... I would be nervous about that way. One slip and the car is dented. Good video though. Thanks for uploading.

It’s probably sitting too high. I returned rack saddle per dealer’s recommendation and strap it upside down on crossbars covered with insulation tubes. Secured with bow/stern lines and drive at 70 mph for hours ok wind noise. It makes my sweat to see you lift it like that.

Once I got the loader, I never lifted it like that again. The loader is the way to go.

Every boss I've said " A bad day of fishing beats a good day of working" to has given me a dirty look, and one would ask rather sarcastically how the fishing was when I would bang out.

My kayak weighs about 75lbs. Car topped the first year I had it. Got tired of it and turned a small aluminum trailer into one I can carry 3 kayaks on. Much easier. And no more noisey roof racks on my car either.

Mark I’m debating on getting the cradles for kayak trailer...how have they worked out. Is it worth the investment? They were pretty pricey when I looked into it.

They are pricey for sure. But they are perfect for it. I was hesitant because of the price until the bottom of the kayak started to deform being strapped down sitting on the car in the heat. The dents where it sat on the roof rack did come back out, but there's absolutely no worries about that with these saddles. I don't even ratchet it down as tight, and no movement. When you're talking about having $2400 or mire in the kayak purchase, what's a couple hundred more to transport it safely? I had the money at the time and spent it...glad I did.

How do you get it down???
@markusykthemarginalflyfish7226
2 жыл бұрын
Both ways just the opposite. When I used to throw it up on my shoulder and lift....I'd lower it down the same way. But now that I use the loader, you just slide it off the back and set the loader on the ground, then lift the front off the rack and set it down. No big deal at all.

Didn’t Th e loader come w/ the kayak like the loader on the outback?

Not for the Compass. I think every model should come with one just like the paddle and seat. But for how great the Compass is I'm not holding it against Hobie. It's one small extra I'm willing to spring for. But... sure would be nice.
