Correction: I make a point saying the Oblivion of the Hecata does not Stain Humanity like the Lasombra. This is false and something that I only recently noticed. Bad lore *slaps hand*. As you were!

I also tend to play/run heceta as more an 'agreement' than a clan then roleplay the bloodline. It led to a fun plotpoint were a sincerly sweet giovanni neonate (of all things) didnt get why the genrally humaine hecata elder (a cappadocian) was distant and cold

I'm using the Harbinger loresheet to play a ghost who's possessed a vampire. She was murdered in a ritual and took over the vampire's body and now finds herself struggling with the nightlife. She's now trying to bring her dead girlfriend back, maybe fix her own body, and avoid final final death for her and her host body. It's so good. I'm really loving playing with the Hecata stuff.

A player at my table created a very cool Capadocian. A young prosecutor from Cairo, who got ghuled, when he investigated a sabbat murder and the local Cappadocian was choosen as the diplomatic pick for that investigation, so the settites and the ashira could stop accusing each other. After that he was embraced because of his dillegent work and the revering seriouseness he shows towards death and the dead.

one of the greatest sins V5 ever committed was forcing the Nagaraja (my favorite clan) into the Hecata because their a "Death Clan", the fact it also "cured" them from needing to eat a pound of Flesh for each pint of blood unless you take the Flesh eaters Bane is another kick under the table. I've gone to multiple V5 Chronicles with a Nagaraja only to have a Smug ST decide often in session 0 that it would be much better for everyone if i just played a Giovanni "because it's all the same clan in the end", half the time i just want to get up and leave

@@VallornDeathblade you are likely right, but apart from that i don't think i have had any problems with any of my local STs, maybe it could just be a Hecata thing as most of the time if i am playing another clan they always seem pretty chill with whatever my character is

One of the biggest problems with the V5 lore is the idea that Harbingers of Skulls, Giovanni and Cappadocians would ever entertain being in the same general location as each other without deadly violence occurring within a very short space of time is ludicrous. The Harbingers absolutely hate the remaining Cappadocians because they are the ones or descended from ones that helped lock them in the Shadowlands. For their part the Cappadocians still around see the Harbingers as failed Cappadocians who received their just rewards for their failures. Both hate the other regarding the Giovanni bloodlines, the Harbingers seeing the Cappadocians as weak for allowing themselves to follow Cappadocius who basically sold his bloodline for try and achieve immortality, and they hate the Giovanni for robbing them of their revenge against Cappadocius who they see as primarily responsible (he was) for their banishment. The Giovanni have always sought to wipe the Cappadocians from the face of the planet, and are hardly going to roll over and die when Harbingers come for them. Then they just decide to throw in the Samedi, who are another necromancer bloodline, but otherwise have little to nothing in common with the other three clans. I have a bunch of other problems with V5, but this retconning and making them prepared to even speak with each other makes no sense at all, other than from a game design point of view, throwing all the necromancers together. It was lazy, completely ignored the large amount of previous more regarding the Cappadocians and Giovanni, let alone the Harbingers of Skulls.

Only true way to play as Hecata is to play a Giovanni who doesn't in the slightest acknowledge the existence of the Hecata and denies all association with the necro-rabble. In this clan raising the dead is an art form, pulling strings is a trade and family is everything, also "don't beat about the bush, rather shake the family tree".

In regards of things I wouldn't do, I don't think I'll come up with a concept for a Cappadocian or Harbinger Hecata. I consider the Cappadocians just dead for the time in VtM, as I entered the game with 3rd edition, and I don't like the Harbinger at all because I consider their whole hatred of the Giovanni the almost most stupid thing that VtM did (considering it wasn't the Giovanni who put them through the idiots test they failed). Plus I really struggle to come up with a concept for a Cappadocian. For concepts for my Hecata. I currently like to play a Giovanni Hecata who in life wasn't that much interested in death but rather medicine seeing ppl. return from World War I. She ended up being wed into the Giovanni family as a political family bonding exercise and embraced because of her aptitude for medicine and interest in learning. She got way more interested in death when the family fed her her bff and after that struggled with World War II (being able to see wraith and being more a humane person clashs with the family approach). Which eventually brought her to escape the family with contacts from the Anarch movement (faking her destruction via crashing a plane) and then moonlightining as a Caitiff for over half a century, before the game picked up. The character is a bagger because on the one hand she doesn't like biting people, as it's risking the victims life and is painful, and to be less obviously "not a Caitiff". In regards to the setting, both the understanding of myself when reading the book as well as with the chronicle was that the Giovanni are still the most numberous and at least for now influencial faction within the Hecata, though that it is somewhat waining. Which is why their loresheet has the level where you get rolls on commanding about other Hecata if you play a Giovanni. A player who plays a Hecata without going into the details of which actual clan/bloodline they came from I'd treat just as a Hecata, as the distinctions will start to wane with how time moves on. In general, my biggest strife with V5 version is the godawful idea to link ceremonies to powers. It leads to the build variety for Hecata nearing 0 and it is just a very bad way to effectively seperating out Necromancy and Obtenebration. Which then is followed by the absolut massive nerf to Necromancy. Where characters can't even summon a spirit without getting a ceremony, much less so move to the shadowlands. Which does as well very much make the claim that the Hecata control the Shadowlands quite absurd. Previously kindred could do quite a lot with all the Necromancy path, Thanatosis and Mortis. With Oblivion they just suck. They might be able to get into the Shadowlands,... if they sacrifice two people,... and they only can get in and out through a portal. Well and in the Shadowlands they can't do anything to wraith. I don't think the alternate Clan Bane in the Player's Guide is the worst. Like there was the potential there to make the idea of spreading decay it work. It just wasn't used or implemented in a way that would make it work in a game.

Note: The biggest shock of my characters unlife she got was when somewhat reconnecting with her family ~ because they kinda imploded in her absence and were in need of help ~ she ran into a Harbinger and having not gotten the note about the Family Reunion thought she was done for good XD (She still doesn't like that Harbinger and doesn't really consider him of the same clan ^^)

As a v20 fan i like to treat the Hecata in V5 as coalition of clans and blood lines that came to a agreement after enough conflict among their own kind . I treat each clan or blood line as their own thing for culture raised in and clan culture as a old school capadocian is differant from harbinger of skulls to Lamia is . For the clan / sect it is more of a mutually agreed on group formation out of survival in the current night. When it come making a necromancer and go with a theme that have room to grow as a character . As one error a person can make is making a Hecata who is a necromancer that theing thing i am a necromancer can get old quickly depending on the game in . As any well made necromancer should have room to grow and change ;ike the 3 cycles if life the clan named after a old god represent , birth , life and death. For a current Hecata playing i am playing a Dunsirn in a V5 game who is a profesional banker and accountant that handle a part of the family illegally made wealth and legal weath made in the criminal underworld . As for them i play them very much like a ventrue with a dunsirn touch for how dark a ventrue can be minus the sense of entitlement that come with being a ventrue. For the group i play with they like to joke that the Dunsirns are just a darker version of the Ventrue .As for them wealth , power , the family and loyality is what matter to them . As so far i kept my humanity ( 7 , almost have 8 through good deed's) through just sticking to code of honour through their jewish faith limiting how much of a terrible person they can be as a kindred and how they go about dealing with the dead or spirits to reduce or prevent stains via oblivion / ceremonies. With the way how the Giovanni families worked they were married in to the family during their mortal days to a mortal Dunsirn family member and proved useful enough for the sire to embrace them in to the Dunsirn kindred side of the family .

@@bytbyt1183 Hecata the way they made from the writers that wrote cult of the blood god . They a sect , a clan and combination of blood line from the same antililuvian if you beleive if follow their blood line origans minus the Nagaraja being a differant origan . Hecata now they a independent sect while being most a independent group like how some of the clans / blood lines were their own independent group in V20 time line . In the current V5 time line they act more like a sect for how they intereact with other groups from the supplement books in V5 and books in V20 . Other sect's treat them as useful ally best kept at a distance or work with them for a time to help further the sect the vampire in end game goals ( IE Hecata helping the Sabbat for their own goals while helping the Sabbat in a war as a hidden ally in war in a city agaist the Camarilla and Anarch's. At best the Hecata are skilled merceneries furthering the clan interest in a situation like this in a ST chronicle for a Sabbat game) . Among the Camarilla , Anarch's , other independent groups around still and Sabbat in V5 from what referance in V5 books . They are sect but not in normal sense how the other major sects are for how they were formed for a recently formed new sect in V5 time line due event's leading up to their formation.

You seem to really... mischaracterize the Nagaraja and their origins here. They *lived* on the other side of the shroud, their knowledge of necromancy is unparalleled and unique, blending the knowledge of mages and fragments of the Spell of Life with the access vampires have to states of undeath. And the Chakravanti weren't simply trying to be immortal, they were pushing through Jhor past the limits of "normal" necromancy and were opposed by other mages. They had also made a promise to fight the Settites in order to secure for themselves Enoch, a trove of power and knowledge noone else in the entire *setting* had access to. Casting them as power motivated like the Giovanni when their only previous relationship to the clans of death was the Harbingers of Skulls (through the True Black Hand) seems... like a very strange way to view them. They are scholars of the shroud itself, survivors of the shadowlands, experts at dealing with Wraiths and even Spectres where a normal Kindred could only run.
