Have had the pleasure of knowing Jim and sitting next to him in rehearsals and concerts when I was hired as an "extra trumpet player" by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Fantastic player and musician and his performance here is an indication of his superb artistry.

@@jimwilt4944 Doing pretty well now. Was in the hospital for two months in early 2020 and one month for rehab. They FINALLY diagnosed me with CLL or chronic lymphoma/leukemia. As horrific as this sounds it was treatable. I had several tranfusions and several chemo infusions and I am almost there according to my rising numbers. I even performed solo work with organ in Oct, Dec of 2020 and Jan of 2021. Had to get back in shape after that period of nothing on my chops. But thanks to my wonderful family who took great care of me, I finally was able to get out of bed on my own, walk with a walker, then a cane, and now on my own. Have never been seriously ill in my life until then and I was so out of it I didn't realize it however my family was very scared. I lost 60 pounds but got most of the weight back (unfortunately LOL). Anyway, it's great to hear you play something outside the orchestra. It is such a pleasure. David

Despite your son’s misgivings, I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed being in your (e-)practice room over this past year. V

Hi Jim, You seem to be working through these etudes roughly one per day. I'm curious if you've played many of these before and if not how long you spend on each on getting it ready to perform?

I think I may have known 15-20% of these before I started this project, so most of this stuff is new ti me - I normally do not have the time to play through this stuff. Most of them were chosen, read-through and recorded on the same day, probably within an hour or two. Some of the harder ones, like the Belloli, Andre, and the Charlier Etudes de Perfectionnement took a couple of days to try to "learn", if you want to call it that. The vast majority of this stuff was nowhere near as prepared or familiar as I would normally want, but they served a purpose for me. I can't say I miss the daily anxiety of trying to choose what to play. That was almost worse than actually learning and recording it.
