Working the ground for the last year or so and now starting to climb, it’s really helpful to see how Jorge’s climbing ropes are set up. Very helpful to see his straightforward system being put to work. Thanks for the videos and education!

What an ordeal🫣 that tree is HUGE I can’t imagine the task of downsizing it. When I saw the roots uplifted and how it was leaning on the house… it caught my breath….be safe it has me on the edge of my seat.!

Looks like the final piece, from the roots to where it’s resting on the roof, forms an arch that is all compression? In my limited experience this is a common problem when live oaks come down and would love if you explained how you tackle the issue, and all the forces that are involved, in a future video. Your knowledge is invaluable and greatly appreciated!

Lots of heavy wood in one of those old Oaks, the limbs always pointing in the wrong direction it seems.

A LOT heavier than usual as it has been raining and the wood is full of added water weight.

Blair, when you were cutting so close to your rigging ring and really being stretched to your limit, I was wondering why you wouldn't make at least a small cut into basically the face side before you tied your clove hitch? Like you were going to make a snap cut. Seems like that could have helped the situation? IDK
@arboristBlairGlenn
6 ай бұрын
I actually want these cuts to hang on a bit to keep them close to the trunk before falling off. Gives me a bit of time to back off or reposition.

Fascinating video getting this cleaned up. Looking forward to this serial. Tip for home builders, think carefully about having trees close to the house. We left a bunch of trees to the north of our house when we built to act as a wind break. Over the decades they kept moving closer to the house. Here in rustbelt NH winter ice storms can get exciting so had them removed.

Amazing work, Mr. Blair. 👍🏼👍🏼 Just curious as to why you didn’t make bottom cuts… wouldn’t that be hard on your rigging when it breaks off?
@arboristBlairGlenn
6 ай бұрын
Did not want a sudden drop. A slower rip gives me more time to extract the chainsaw in a tight spot. Also the tearing wood keeps it closer to the tie.

Do you mind if I can ask your opinion. I just bought a house that has a florida live oak about 150 yrs old. it has 3 very low hang branches almost touching the ground . Would this tree benefit if I removed those 3 branches to lift the ground? for 1 it is an eye sore for the house and 2 it would provide more sun light under the tree. Thank you in Advance

A large wound on the trunk of an old tree ALWAYS leads to future decay on the main trunk. Unless the limbs are a hazard or you just have to do it, I say, let it be. Reminds me of an old Beatles song. Now it’s stuck in my head!
