Very good explanation/demonstration. Funny thing-I just finished recording a video showing an IP3 measurement (among other measurements), and then went to KZitem and saw your video on the subject (which goes into more detail than mine on IP3 specifically). Excellent content-keep it up. 👍😁73s

thanks! I rewatched the video after uploading, and I was not very happy about it. But I am happy you found it useful anyway :)

If I’m not mistaking, the IP3 is the “intercept point" which very often is shown as characteristic of some high level TX like Icom’s. Given your explanation and the theory ( tnx for that ) the higher it is, the better, right ? Bentornato su YT, sempre interessantissimi i tuoi video.. ‘73 de I3APR, Andrea

Yes, exactly, the higher the IP3 the better it is. And yes, it is called the (Third-order) intercept point. Another value often used in amp datasheet is the "1-db compression", which is typically -10db below the IP3 (so in the case of my amp, 38-10 = 28dbm). At this level (IP3 - 10dbm), the 3rd order products are -20db (carrier goes down 10, but 3rd product goes down 3x10 times) below the desired signal, and this quite acceptable. So IP3-10 is kind of the limit of where the amplifier still acts linearly reasonably well. Grazie del commento Andrea! Sto finendo di costruire un altro amp di QRPLABs e sara' molto interessante vedere come funziona. Faro' un video sull'argomento! A presto!
