When we were living in New Mexico, we would go to Juarez every few weeks. I was 8 years at the time and Mexican culture made a lasting impression on me. I am 75 now and still love all things Mexican, especially the music and food. I discovered Rick Bayless and Patti Jinich on PBS many years ago and have learned much about Mexican cooking from them! Thank you, Rick, for this trip to Oaxaca!

Thank you Rick for this vlog. As an American with Mexican ancestry, this day became more important to me when I lost my parents, brothers and nephews. Today I have my personal ofrenda to honoring those whom I love. I continue to learn from you, thank you.

I am so glad you posted this video and the recipe for black mole from Oaxaca. I was finally able to successfully grow chilhuacle chiles (black, red and yellow) in Southern California. They are drying now and will become a good mole in the near future. Thank you for these great recipes.

My favorite season of the year is Fall! Full of colors, textures, smells and the best dishes of the year. Starting with chiles en nogada, bread, exquisite dishes for Day of the Dead, beverages such as atoles, sweets of all kinds, in particular pumpkin, sweet potatoes, buñuelos and OMG, my favorite, tamales!! Enjoy!!

It's wonderful - all the good food all over town, and you go to the cemetery and clean the graves and update the dead relatives on what's been going on and eat good food. And then you go home and have the live relatives over for more food.

I am from Chicago, born in Mexico, Mexico City to be exact and I visited Rick's restaurants just to be horribly disappointed with the taste of the food. To someone that is not Mexican and doesn't know how something is supposed to taste, I can see how you would think his food is good but I found it to be tasteless and not well executed it just looks pretty.

As a Mexican I understand the coping mechanism of cemetery decorations in a country going through genocide proverbially. As a Christian I'm going to say just don't do so in the name of God and certainly do not go home and offer any of this to him.
