I recently made the jump to Acustica plugins. I A/B'd the heck out of it back and forth between Acustica and my other plugins and Acustica always has more punch. The compressors and EQs have that magic I've been missing. My test mixes quickly sound better than anything else I've ever done because my transients aren't getting lost and smeared anymore. Amazing stuff.

A while back I randomly got Pulsar Mu & Smasher for decently cheap in a bundle that included some Sonnox plugs I had been after for a while. I’ve since fallen in love with Mu and the 1178. Smasher is pretty one-knob tbf but always gets the job done when nothing else seems to, plus it’s usually free. Loving the 8200 so far. I know it’s dumb to have a million EQ plugins but this thing is far quicker to dial in than 90% of my other analog-modeled EQ plugins. Might not be able to do what some Acustica/UAD plugs can do, but I’m always blown away by how gracefully Pulsar plugs take most of the audio I throw at them. Definitely luxury purchases but there’s absolutely a value add in terms of workflow enhancement.

i've just demoed a bit of the Acustica stuff and it is highly engaging....not just on the ears but the eyes also. the year-end-discounts are active and it is really very tempting....but for someone who doesn't know these devices like the back of his hand (if at all) i totally consider presets as a valuable, if not absolutely necessary way, to get familiar with them...what the experts suggest as worthy points of departure from which you can venture forth and develop and fine tune to suit your own needs. Pulsar gives you that, at least it did with the 1178 and i've found these to be very helpful. i think there's a kind of elitism, a sort of snobbery which goes with owning Acustica's stuff in this regard.....it's like selling you a new Tesla but not showing you what does what...i mean you should know these things, naturally. or don't try to make music...this is grown man stuff....haha. i may still jump on a 3-for-2 package while this still sale is still on but i hate to encourage this snobbery....and i dare say perhaps even laziness, on the part of developers. of course you get those saying i'm being lazy by not wanting to take the time to learn this gear... to not want to go to engineering-school to learn how to use what is basically eye and ear candy....yet as the customer i decide where to plop my money...and i prefer my tools to be user-friendly...fairly easy to learn and use....and what's with one plugin requiring so many damned files in your plugins folder? what is this mad clutter? i've never seen such a thing....is there a reason for this? nevertheless i'm still intrigued...and tempted. it's only money after all.
Excellent video. Doing a plugin review, as other channels do, is good... but the idea of reviewing a new plugin AND, at the same time, comparing it with one of its best competitor plugins, is really valuable. I agree with you that Pulsar Audio makes great plugins, and I am proud user of their products. Acustica is also makes great plugins, and I am a proud user of their products. I agree with your assessment that Pulsar 8200 gives you 99% of want you want, and Acustica GREEN 4 gives you that 1% more. As I was listening to your side-by-side test of the 8200 and the GREEN 4, heard a difference which I described as "greater depth" on the part of the GREEN 4. It was nice to hear you identify the same difference, using different wording but describing, I believe, the same concept. I am looking forward to more great reviews / comparisons from you.

AA's Green sounds 1000x better IMO. Pulsar in the past flat out lied about analog modeling being in their plugins, plus they had terrible aliasing (in the past), ever since then I have been against using their plugins. Anything that's analog will have......oh well for simplicity sakes, it all breaks down to harmonic saturation basically. Even something as clean as a Massenburg EQ! As you can see in the AA plugin there the eq curve is crazy different. With dips, spikes, and all sorts of weird shit going on. Instead of being just a hill, and valley like any old digital eq you can get inside your daw for FREE! Now let's be real here. With all AA plugins, computers are still not powerful enough for you to use 2 AA plugins on every track in a 100 track song! And really the only way to check something out, is by seeing it on a full mix, over 50+ tracks. There is a reason why still to this day, ANALOG tracks from the 90's, 80's, 70's, etc., sound better than tracks from today. The culmination of all that saturation, harmonic distortion, analog mojo, etc., over all those tracks, going in, out, patched, overdubbed, mixed and mastered, adds up into a culminating whole! Well when you have plugins be plain, boring, or have aliasing, and bad eq phasing, culminate over 100 tracks, it just turns out bad, stale, no depth, nada. You hear about all these majors just doing digital... Well, doubtfull. However I can bloddy well garuentee you that the tracks they work on, have gone through big bucks gear(like an SSL 9000k, Neve 80 series, Trident B console!

I have to admit that I deleted the Pulsar demo not even 1 minute after I put it against TimP Surge EQ (for Nebula) - the latter being in another league. And I also have to admit that I never gelled with Green (due to the sheer quality of the Surge EQ). My observations: the Pulsar literally renders the signal a little smaller than the original and sounds like your average algo EQ*, Green surprisingly adds some dimension and is really tight as you would expect with a hardware 8200. Conclusion for me: TDR Slick EQ M plus Surge, if I want that tight, clean, objective yet pleasant sound. * I honestly have no idea why the released the plugin at that stage of development, it's inferior to so many contenders. But I have no idea of today's marketing tactics.

Separation and transparency on AA . Pulsar is gluing in middles ... Im not shure should it.
@ramspencer5492

I sensed a little bit of a mid/side difference..... Something phase oriented in a good way..... Does the pulsar audio do dual mono and does it do mide/side? The tiniest tweaks in either or both of those could really open up the depth. If it doesn't, you could use a second transparent plugin too tweak either or both of these things, very slightly. Now I'm curious about this as way of adding more depth to any stereo plugin. I'm talking tiny adjustments.... Especially if separating the mid/side a tiny amount. Miniscule.....

8200 is mastering tool. Very clean tool. Channels difference and saturation is not good for 8200 emulation. Null test is the best comparison tool IMHO. And 8200's de-esser is amazing. The first iteration of de-esser in first 8200's build was funny tho. Pulsar Audio makes amazing plugins in terms of features and sound. 8200 can't be replacement for Massive Passive, different curve and saturation. Acustica Audio EQ's has reduced kernels at low frequencies so it is not 1:1 curve recreation of the actual hardware.
@FoliaSound

Null test of two different plugins will never produce silence and the artifact you'll be left with can tell you literally nothing :) Talking about replacement, I'm talking about starting using new tool, nothing more, nothing less. I don't see a phase shift comparison here and no hammerstein analysis (harmonics over frequencies graph) which could also explain the sound difference. To me the difference is huge!
