Equal Hands works with artisans in the Atlantico region of Colombia working with ancestral expertise with the amazingly versatile Iraca Palm.
The harvesting and crafting of the Iraca Palm dates back two centuries in Columbia. Artisans in the region have organized themselves into productive cooperatives, where they are trained on different weaving techniques. We work mainly with Ketty Zapata at the Mapau collective located in Usiacuri and have established a fair trade relationship based on trust and mutual understanding.
