General Motors expects to electrify its entire product line at some point, and on the truck side that starts with the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV, an impressive pickup built to shatter the perception that EVs have to sacrifice power for efficiency.
Along with consumer trims, fleets can also choose between two work truck models: the 3WT and 4WT. fleets with a focus on productivity may opt for the 3WT which has a 12,500 lb. towing capacity and just shy of 400 mile range, while the 4WT excels at energy efficiency with a 450 mile range, though has a 10,000 lb. max towing capacity.
Both leverage GMs Ultium platform base, also used by the BrightDrop Zevo cargo van, electric Chevy Blazer police pursuit unit, and Equinox SUV to name a few.
But is the new electric Silverado suited for your job site and/or off work needs? We recently visited GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan to find out from Stephen Marlin, EV consultant manager at GM Envolve, the OEM's fleet business unit.
