Agreed, ticket costs are getting absurdly high especially for live events where nothing of consequence to the overall storylines happens. Also the merch is super expensive at live events. Easier to just order from the website later in the year than get it after plopping down a couple hundred bucks to take the kids to the live event.

The best shows I’ve been to were WWF Attitude Era house shows at the Rosemont Horizon (Austin’s favorite arena in Chicago burbs). It would sell out the same day and the matches were longer and the wrestlers were much more engaged than Raw. The refs would even encourage the ladies in the crowd to flash!

I went to many WWE live events and television shows. I went to more live events for WCW than Nitro. Never saw a live Nitro. Live events have a different feel than television. I went to 2 like a couple months apart. The first show was Smackdown and the other was a live event. I liked the live event better. Wrestlers were having fun. This was when Drew McIntyre on Smackdown. He and Byron Suckston were the host. Saw Drew 4 times that night. Right after the pandemic had been lifted. I love sitting near the drunk guy or guys. 😂 They're underrated as commentators. I love also the crying kid were his hero is getting beat down.

Covid also hurt bands and recording artists. Bands like Kansas and Styx make the vast majority of their money touring and if they cut an album, it's a net loss if they don't sell at least 250,000 copies and tour to offset those costs. But recording an album is also a tax write off. It's a business expense, but without touring, they'll lose their shirts. Both Kansas and Styx recorded and released albums during COVID but couldn't tour on them. The albums were well received but they haven't recorded an album since. They're constantly on tour to recoup their losses but also keep their techs and roadies employed ...

For me it's the other fans in attendance that can massively impact your enjoyment of going to a show. I had some god awful experiences with sitting next to terrible people at AEW events, which eventually caused me and my wife to never go again. The WWE crowd was better. I can only assume because WWE has more families, whereas in AEW I mostly ran into groups of fat, lonely, loud men who couldn't help but fill in the role of some kind of unbathed drunk, sexist, racist, misogynist, violent prick, or all of the above. I heard more attempts at one-liners than an MCU movie in that crowd because all they care about is making the show about themselves. That's my impression, anyway. Back when they did AEW Dark I actually had better experiences compared to Dynamite/Rampage, though.

Wear and tear on the product (the wrestlers) would be number one….every time they get in the ring they’re rolling the dice on the injury risk. Might be minuscule one time, but roll it enough times you’re gonna roll the one eventually. To put it more succinctly, what does WWE tell USA if Cody Rhodes goes down at a house show in Huntsville and won’t be on Smackdown for a year?

With house shows the fans get the experience of seeing these larger than life characters in their small hometown. If a Dallas Cowboys fan living in Amarillo Texas wants to see the cowboys take on the NY Giants they have to go to Dallas. With house shows, a Cody Rhodes fan living in Amarillo can see and interact with him right there in Amarillo.

I don't really get what Conrad is getting at. When he says "live event" he doesn't mean Raw or Smackdown or Dynamite? Legitimately, I don't even know why any promotion would do anything but live tv tapings. House shows are dumb. They don't further story or really have a purpose. I live in a small state and I've had the opportunity to see the WWE live in my state 3x this year. It will be fine. How about instead of a WWE live show you go to a local indie wrestling show at a highschool gym. I have seen a lot of wrestling live but the high school gym where my dad went to HS I saw Kevin Nash, Brett Hart, Kurt Angle. Those arr my best memories of wrestling and i have a lot of great pictures to remember them. THAT is what you should encourage people to go see cause the WWE is making a point of proclaiming they sell out every meaningful show for like 6 months in a row now.

Purpose of house shows (1) inexperienced talent get invaluable reps (2) experienced talent stay sharp and keep their bodies calloused (it's harder to take bumps on an infrequent schedule) (3) talent get to practice spots and try out new gimmicks (4) the company promotes itself in a larger variety of towns, not just the same big TV markets (5) merch sales (6) talent stay busy instead of sitting at home between tapings getting complacent (7) it's far more fun and interactive than TV tapings.
