Eric also was in a group called " The Raspberries" which had a number of great hits before he went solo.

I used to think this song was melancholic and very depressing when i was younger (but have appreciated and understood the lyrics more through time) Eric was a very talented singer- songwriter and instrumentalist..he sadly passed away recently, may he rest in peace 🙏

Still love your energy and passion for music, you're looking absolutely gorgeous, and baby Empress is completely adorable. I'm so very happy for you And your family, and so appreciate the great content over the years. Can't wait for more. ☮️🎶🔟

that instrumental break is based on classical composer Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no. 2, 2nd movement and you should check out that concerto . its a showcase of piano virtuosity, romance, and emotion and yes the original recording did have the instrumental break but from what i remember it wasnt as long but i might be wrong

***ERIC CARMEN TRIVIA TIME!!*** .....all, by MYSELF............all........ (1:08)..... - ....I'll make it quick, Empress...Eric (who passed away this Year), based this tune on a classical piece because he loved the arrangement (3:22), and wrote this tune....It hit #2 Pop (January 1976), and was his biggest hit (then)...... - .....NO ONE touched this tune for the longest, because it was so hard to sing (because of the low notes on the verses and the high note chorus)......except, in 1996, by One Woman..... *CELINE* .....ba-BOOOM!! ...She immediately knocked it outta the STADIUM, and wound snatching Eric's Hit! - ....her version went WORLDWIDE, and I'm sure there'll be People mentioning her version in the comments....BUT, Eric had a MAJOR comeback in 1988, when his tune "Hungry Eyes" was placed on the "Dirty Dancing" Soundtrack, and his homage to the 'Spector Sound', "Make Me Lose Control", hit #1 on the AC charts (and, #4 & #2 Pop, respectively), ...... - ....(5:44) ....this was a 'longer' live version done for the "Midnight Special" TV Show in 1976....

Oh okay, I was wondering if this was played on the radio. And does him being inspired means he sampled or jacked a classical beat 😂

@@EmpressReacts ....ONLY the break (3:22); he wrote a completely new arrangement around it, so it wasn't 'jacked'...Barry Manilow did the same thing on "Could It Be Magic"..... ; )

Empress if you want to watch a mind blowing interpretation of this song, check out Eartha Kitt's Dick Cavett Show performance, where she paired it with a poetic song she wrote called Beautiful at 40. Its hypnotic. This was a staple of her life shows.

They played this song every five minutes in the mid 70s on the radio, played it into the ground, I used to cover my ears. Sweet song though. Your hair looks fab by the way. I see the cutie behind you on the bed, hers looks great too!

Hmm, listening along just now, I'm struck by how parts of it sound like David Bowie "Life on Mars". I hated this song when I was a kid. But what do eight year old boys know anyway? 😛

Celine Dion's version is much more pop centric. It is not nearly as deep. The original has a very sad theme running through it. Dion's version sounds more like huge pop love song song type ballad.

@@EmpressReacts Yes, it was huge hit for her as it has a great melody and she has the pipes. Since the mid 1990's pop, rap and r and b artists have consistently sampled and or remade/covered pop and rock song from the 60's to early 90's. The melodies are simply not near as good today as they were in were on early to early 60s to maybe the mid 90s. The record companies took a different cookie cutter approach and it killed 95 percent of the creativity. There is some good pop and rock music today, but most of it is not close to as good as the melodies of the past.
