Oh, I am so tired of hearing this nonsense. How did you forget to say the musicians in your time did not need Autotune? That usually comes into the geezer rant at some point. As a teen in a small rural town, when I discovered the Beatles, my parents and all their generation dismissed them as not fit to stand in the shadow of the musical icons of their time. (Later, when we were driving in the car and Paul sang "Yesterday" on the radio, my Dad admitted he was wrong. That's one of the reasons that though he is long gone I'll always respect my Dad -- not many people have the character required to admit being wrong.) Every generation by necessity chooses the sound that resonates best. By definition, other generations will not feel the same. How could they? What we experienced in our formative years will always be with us. And later, we will not be able to identify with other generations' favorites, because we heard them at a different stage of life. Me, I'm a rocker and could never figure out rap. But I know better than to put it down. Rap comes from a place beyond my wildest imaginings as a teen. Just because I do not understand it doesn't mean it is sub-par. Only a self-entitled idiot would feel that way.
