In my opinion, the finest piece of light orchestral music ever written by the genious Eric Coates makes you feel good just listening to and puts a spring in your step !.

This was used as the recessional at our graduation ceremonies in high school. Since I played in the band, I got to play it three years, and fell in love with it. I STILL get a lump in my throat every time I hear it. Simply the BEST!

This version conduced by MacKerras in my own opinion is the defacto version. He dashes through it, yet with feeling. The mighty, ballsy drum THUNK at 2:39 and two other thereafter are ONLY in the MacKerras recording. Thanks for posting!!!

@ThePiano1991 His "Halcyon Days" from "The Three Elizabeths" was also used as the theme music for the 1967 BBC production of "The Forsyte Saga" with Kenneth More, Eric Porter, Nyree Dawn Porter, Susan Hampshire and Michael York, among others, which brought Masterpiece Theater to these shores in 1969...

The Knightsbridge March, along with the whole London Everyday Suite is one of Coates best efforts. The tempo here in this recording is a little fast for my taste, but otherwise a stellar performance.

As with syncopeter, this march fills me with joy. As Brahms sometimes does, Coates gives away the second main theme in the opening fanfare at 00:14 before we know it's going to be the second theme. The performance is fantastic -- the drumbeats at 00:54 and 02:23 prefigure the one at 02:39, which never fails to make me laugh. How could a mere drumbeat do that?

earthatic, this would appear to be the very same performance used by Monty Python's Flying Circus in their skit, "The Dull Life of a City Stockbroker." For some reason, it was not included on the CD of incidental library music from the series. Can I trouble you for the performance info - what orchestra, who conducted, etc?

Tis unmistakably Charles MacKerras conducting with a huge tympani THUD at 2:39. No other arrangement of this tune has that! Also he takes in at a fast clip like the composer is his old recordings, which can also be heard on KZitem. But the TYMP THUD at 2:39 is a one of a kind recording. ###
