I’m from 9 years in the future and can assure you Eric keeps making great music the sold out shows indicate his following is also growing.. and another thing, you guys don’t know how good you’ve got it, but you’ll find out in 2020. Good Luck! And FWIW, DO NOT COMPLY.

The seventeen people that dislike this are def and angry they can't hear it. :(
eric uses musical complexity that trained musicians can really appreciate, and still sounds catchy and can appeal to almost anyone. neither jack johnson or jason mraz can say that.

This is from his live album "Before I Sold Out", not Sounds Like This (where the album version is). He talks to the crowd after All Over Now (the song right before this on the album) and introduces Outside VIllanova as a brand new song but wants people to clap like they've heard it before to trick people on the album; "Oh yeah, you know this one?" Love it

@CloudStarxXx I think that is because on this was recorded at one of his concerts. On Pandora, it plays a few minutes prior to this song starting on another song. He actually told them all to cheer and pretend that they know the song, because it was a new song to the audience. At first, they cheered too early, so apparently he was going to give them a head cue. That's why he sounds so sarcastic when he says 'Oh, you know this one!'

@cten07 - actually, as a musician, and after watching Eric, I KNOW he feels the same - that ALL of his songs are either influenced by - or are EXACTLY the SAME as...MANY other 'pop' songs out there - there's only so many chord structures you can create; that's the point Eric makes by playing his 'medley' pieces - showing the 'origins' of his songs....but i TOTALLY agree that he has one DAMN unique voice, musicianship - and is basically a genius in my personal opinion! the guy LOVES his music. :)

Not you not realizing that this song is about a fan who went to see him play at a show once, developed an unhealthy perasocial relationship and wouldn’t stop trying to contact him. Thinking it would be appropriate for them to be in a relationship . when it wasn’t!!! For obvious reasons. But when told no, they wouldn’t take no for an answer, so he wrote this song in response to it, to show why it would be a horrible idea, to finally get through to them.

And now I'm trying to decide If I feel dirty at all Cause it gets hard to tell It's never just black and white She's got a mind of her own and she uses it well So she invites me over outside Villanova She's got some pull-out sofa that we won't hardly need She is only drinking soda, revving up that motor Got places we could go to, but I still won't believe That she's only gifted When I'm standing by her side She goes unassisted And I start to relax as I cut her some slack CHORUS So get up, I gotta go to work Facing all these people who now know I'm a jerk And it's a set-up, I gotta change my clothes Concealing all this evidence before everybody knows What I've done and what I'm gonna do again And in the middle of the night I have a breakdown of sorts with regret creeping in She's gonna put up a fight And she will get her way, cause she loves sleeping in So I need someone to side with when she begins confiding And I cannot provide it cause I'm endlessly cold She says she's so excited to play some groom and bride With me but I'm undecided so I need to be told

hmm, i agree with pretty much you've said. i do think jason does have a better voice; it's debatable, but i think most people would side with jason. he definitely has more music, but quantity and quality do not necessarily go together. however, admit this: the chord progressions eric uses in even his catchiest songs (i.e. rock and roll) i've never even come across, ever. jason uses the same progressions and stays limited to one key pretty much for an entire song. that's all, peace :] :]
