@@Scratch_Monsters_Golf The story ends bad though. Of course he was hauling them from gig to gig, mostly in Texas then. Usually between Austin and Dallas. I saw him in Dallas several times. Electromagnets and then with Tommy Taylor and Kyle Brock. I'm from Dallas. Grew up there. Somewhere on the road around 1980, his gear trailer (He had a big Dodge van and pulled a cargo trailer behind) people broke into the trailer/or van and stole all his guitars. No doubt people who knew what was in there. Only Virginia, the tobacco burst '54 was with him at the time. It's the one he played at both Austin City Limits. He dropped it and had it repaired. But he said it never played the same. So he sold it on Reverb for around 100K. He did find one of the Strats at a shop and bought it back. I think it's a '58.

One of my early teachers - who I'm still friends with - calls in "The 5% Rule". You don't have to play it all, or even learn it all, but if you can take that 5% and drop into your mixer it's all good...it benefits your own playing.

so true. just look at 24:03 onwards, his right hand hybrid picking is crazy fast and crystal clear, all while he's singing. there are few people in music who can pull that off (TK from LING TOSITE SIGURE comes to mind). it's technically astonishing and sounds graceful. the mixture of pick attack and finger attack is instantly recognizable as his style and is key to the beauty of his arpeggio.
