I have to say this. Eric Tagg in my opinion was on the same level as artists like Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. Unfortunately, he didn't get the support from the record labels to get his name more universally known. I could say he was an underrated artists but to be quite honest with you I don't see it like that. He just simply is one of the greatest vocalist of his era. You can hear God in his voice.

I agree with you, there we're so many amazing singer/songwriters in that time that deserve way more recognition. But McDonald and Loggins just sold themself better. Micheal is the most recognizeable background singer ever and Kenny was just in a league of his own.

Yes, Yes, Yes .Eric is absolutely on the same "talent level" as Loggins and McDonald. His name should be known by many, many more people!! I'm just so thankful I know who he is, and get to have my heart and soul massaged by his velvety smooth voice!! Thanks Eric. I fell in Love with him when I was 15 years old in 1981, when he was singing on Lees "RIT" album.

What I read and heard over the years was that although Eric Tagg recorded and worked with the great West Coast artists, musicians and producers of the time, he didn’t involve himself in that California lifestyle and instead opted to commute in and out from his home in Texas? I guess the recognition and longevity of other vocalists of the time was enhanced by their constant presence on ‘the California scene’, and it would account for why Eric Tagg isn’t remembered / thought of in the same way as the others. I guess a lot of his choice was down to his religion and the fact that ‘the scene’ probably didn’t exactly tie in too well with his religious convictions. Either way, those that know, know! Absolutely love Eric’s output over the years. One of the greats, for sure.

It awes me a spectacularly advanced masterpiece as this hasn’t made it into Spotify, ITunes , Amazon or other platforms like them. I personally think that that’s insanity (perhaps stupidity) at it’s maximum 🙁. This album, if I may say, is in some ways superior to it’s contemporaries of it’s genre from the same era.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you very much! When I was a high school student, when I listened to an album that I happened to pick up, it became a huge favorite. It's one of a number of albums that have been sold out to my daughter for some reason. Even though I organized myself and left it! It's also incredible to meet! It's been more than 40 years since then, but listening now isn't inferior to current popular songs. There are other people who think so, people who don't know what value is at all will hate them.

@@Davidgllc what was it like recording In The Way? I love the entire album but that song is pure magic
@Davidgllc
3 жыл бұрын
@@sinematic06 It was memorable for sure! Lee Ritenour is/was a great producer/player and Don Murray an incredibly skilled and musical engineer. When you hand those two a group of players like the one they had for this album (Lee, John Robinson, Alex Acuna, David Hungate, Abraham Laboriel, Nathan East, David Foster, Don Grusin, Greg Mathieson, Tom Scott & Jerry Hey, etc...) and songs written and sung by one of the best song-writer singers of that time, how could the result be anything other than fantastic? Dream Walkin' is one of my favorite albums ever and being there for all the recording and mixing sessions is such a great memory for me. In The Way is one of my favorites from this project. "Two is company, threes a crowd, too many cooks can spoil the soup. Heads he wins your love, tails I lose, two's a couple threes a group" Eric was a very clever lyricist! All of the songs on this album were so good! If you're asking what it was like actually recording the track from an engineering perspective, I can tell you that Don was (at least in my opinion) a purist. He bypassed any electronics he could to get the cleanest possible sound on tape. He had his own custom pre-amp he'd bring in with him and he'd get as close as he could to going from the mic to that pre-amp to tape with practically nothing in between. And of course the sessions were amazing. Those cats were unbelievable and being in that room felt incredible :) A song recorded for the album that didn't make the final cut was "Any Unfortunate Lover." It was hauntingly beautiful with lyrics I still have stuck in my head after 35+ years without actually hearing it again. It still gives me chills. I think Lee felt it was a little too dark for the album but I loved it and I wish it were out there for people to hear. Oh well.
