In his little writing in the beginging of the musical score, he writes that October is his favorite time of the year. He wrote the song to capture the feeling of October and the feeling of fall and the beauty in nature. He indeed captures it in this emotional peice.

Eric Whitacre.. Excellent writer, and a good band. A key of G concert doesn't always mix well with a band. And the trumpets had good upper intonation at letter "G" as well. I enjoyed this.

Wow. Amazing. This is one of the best sounding recordings I have heard (for free that is, I have yet to buy it on iTunes yet). I remember finding this song three years ago (I was in 7th grade), and tried so hard to convince my band director to let us play it, but unfortuently she said no. But I asked my band director this year if we could play it next year, and he told me he was actually thinking about it, so I'm super excited. This is a song of beauty and magnificence, combined with genious.

My high school Wind Ensemble played it for our October concert. I love it. We learned it in about a month and it was so much fun. It's probably the best piece we've ever played. I just went digging through about twenty pounds of music to find it so I could follow along. Ooh. yeah. The woodwinds are quite out of tune in the middle. But the rest sounds quite good. My favorite bit to play I think would have to be the first three beats of I in trumpet.

@bandg3k I actually want to say that that was the flutes. The only reason I think that is is because my band played this a couple years ago and I remember that being a trouble note for my group as well! Although all the notes sound like trouble for this group, but it is still a beautiful piece!
