I got a bit emotional listening to this one. I really identify with Erik's journey of self-care and health maintenance, and utmost passion for writing music. Also Eyal , I appreciate your interview skills - you did a good job keeping the conversation on some linear track while also letting it flow.

Erik "The Surgeon" Rutan is a very nice dude. He would do great in any path of his choice for life, that´s for sure. Rare breed. Lucky us that he has chosen Death Metal.

This dude is exactly who I would want to produce my music, simply because of how hard he works. The fact that he has made albums for and with some of the greatest death metal bands of all time, that is just the cherry on top.

Watching this made me realize how much I have in common with Erik along with probably a lot of us who play this kind of music. A no bullshit person who always is giving 110% going to sleep only when feeling something was accomplished. The physical issues from getting older and over playing along with the exercise routine. Its been a big part of my life being a little older than Erik but as we know the stretching and warming up along with more patience has improved as I have aged. I wish this guy all the best and hopefully will meet him someday.

Great interview, I´ve enjoyed it a lot, thank you. Rutan is an amazing guitarist and producer. I found it very interesting that you talked about meditation and healthy routines, I think we should talk more about this and normalize it to leave behind stereotypes and bad lifestyles.

Just went to Cannibal Corpse and Mayem on October 2, 2023 and was blown away by Erik's playing. While Pat OBrien is as talented and technical as any in death metal, Erik's raw, heavy guitar tone and the speed with which he can play is a perfect fit to play all eras of Cannibal's catalogue. And, Mayhem was absolutely incredible live....a bucket list band I can cross off. Now, Nocturno and Fenriz need to take Darkthrone on the road.....but, sadly, that will never happen.

@30:00 My love for the music has only increased. 20+ years playing guitar and I love it more now than ever. As I get older my outlook on life and art has changed and made the appreciation even better. Playing guitar, writing riffs, making songs. There's nothing else like it. We're lucky to live in a time where the creation is easier than ever. You can do it all in your room with a laptop and a guitar. @1:25:00 thanks for bringing up the creative process. It's hard to find people talking about this stuff but it's critical stuff for creators.

Good question concerning Where the Slime Live. I was really interested in how he worked with Trey in Morbid Angel. Domination was a phenomenal album. I'm still using gp6. I use it for all my writing. The best $60 I ever spent. I've been using it for about 10 years. Guitar Pro rules.
