The impact of the Belew/Ballaw rule is so powerful in the highlands of Eritrea that most of them trace their origins to the Belew people. Once the Beja Kingdoms came to an end [14th century AD] Medri-Bahri was established in much of Eritrea and parts of eastern Sudan. Medri-Bahri's capital was Debarwa. Hope that helps and if you watch part 3, it will make things a lot clearer. Feel free to ask me for any sources mentioned. Most of them are on the videos but I'll give u direct links to them

In Eritrea, Medri-Bahri [Land of the Sea] had a Democratic-like political process where the citizens of Medri-Bahri voted for a King to which they called the "Bahri-Negassi" [Sea King]. Over 70 Sea Kings all together were voted to power and some were even Bejas. Medri-Bahri's borders were marked by the Mareb and Tekeze rivers, which still make up much of the modern border between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

The Beja Kingdoms ruled most of Eritrea and eastern Sudan for 600 years. After the fall of the Aksumite empire in 750 AD, the Bejas would rule till the early 14th century AD. The Bejas are still remembered by the Tigrinya population of Eritrea as the Belew people. The Belew were Arabs who adopted the Beja cultures and assimilated with the Eritrean populations. In fact, in the Beja language called To-Bedawie, Belew or Ballaw means "Bedouin [Arab] beja speakers".

this is a really nice video i have a few questiions i am eritrean tigrinya arent the highlands of eritrea were "abyssinian culture" started, and not ethiopia?, and we were one of the many feudal kingdoms of "abyssinia" though not a united ethiopia? like there was no tigray or anything, but just separated states, like hamasien, seraye, etc, and agame, shoa, wollo, who were just separate kingdoms with governors and ras's, and beja were a completely different kingdom? hopefully someone answers

The Zagwe Dnyasty according to the Historian Raka (as I pointed out in the video) believes the Zagwa was around for 375 years - while some historians believe it was around for 275 years. Either way, I fail to see my mistake, instead, I see a few mistakes on ur part son.

And: Why was Geez Not spoken or written In any part of Ethiopia prior to the 4th-5th century (Official language of Tigray was sabean prior to that) While Geez was spoken In eritrea from 2000-1500 b.c and written from 1000 b.c (Stele of Matara). My favourite Why did the ethiopian army tried to destroy the stele Of matara in 2000 with c4 and wipe its existence, leaving 1000's of other artifacts, stele's and historic sites with less attention??? History=history you can try tochange it bt truth wins

The feudal system was only in Amhara territories like Gojjam, Shewa, wollo, and Gonder. This system started under the Solomonic Dynasty "myth" period. Even when they started to go up north and add Tigray, they did so for brief periods and was often bloody. The Solomonic Dynasty started under Yekuno Amlak of the late 13th century AD and ended in the 17 century AD. During this time, all of Eritrea was under two independent Kingdoms - Medri-Bahri and the Adal [Afar] Sultanate.

Can you define Tigrinya people? Because we've got people in Tigray calling themselves Tigrinyan and claiming all Eritrean culture, history, and language?

To Musique1226: I think by "Abyssinian culture" you mean Habesha culture, right? The Term Abyssinia/n came during the Portuguese missionaries of the 16th century AD. They used this term for "geographical convenience" and not to denote a political state. Before the Portuguese coming, this term never existed. We know now, what the Portuguese once deemed as being Abyssinian also had different rivaling Christian & Muslim kingdoms in it. They even once called Somali territories as being Abyssinian.

I got some good books for you but you need to be a bit more specific. Which part of history are you trying to focus on? Ancient? medieval? Colonial? Or would you like to read the cultural history and laws of the Eritreain region [which I didn't really cover in the videos]?

For starters, you acknowledge in what is NOW called Ethiopia as being a "Christian" state, yet speak of queen Gundit, who was a Queen of a Jewish Kingdom in the same Ethiopian boundary. To top it off, Shewa (central Ethiopia) was under a Muslim Sultanate state, independent of any rule and had even fought the Solomonic Dynasty in many wars. Stop short-changing your people, you were never a Christian state, because you were never a one unit or a one nation-state.

Lastly, Yekuno Amlak never had the Solomonic bloodline, nor does any Solomonic King, past or present that came after him who claimed it. All historians agree this was a MYTH created to win over his neighbors in Tigray, who viewed him as a total phony. Yekuno Amlak murdered The last Zagawa Dynasty King and took Yemeni tales of Queen of Sheba (name comes from the Saba Kingdom of Yemen) to legitimize his crown as the "rightful heir".

What I don't like about these three videos is that the fact all the evidence are cam from whiteman, we are different from Tigray. Whitemen have been well known on "divide and rule" policy. However, I believe Eritrea and Tigray is different only because of Tigray belongs to Ethiopia and Eritrean also belongs to Eritrea. What i don't like in the story is that, to try to tell us Tigray is not our blood related is very laughable, shame and Ignorant. Please, lets find the fact History that can give us peace. If a white professor said any thing it is not because he cares on our history more than we do, but trying to create conflict among brothers. What makes me laugh is also someone (white man) said eritreans look more to Sudanes than Tigray, yes it is true Benamire eritrea is same people with sudanese people who are in the border and they don't deny it. Afar Eritrea is same with afra Tigray people and they dont deny it. Kunama and belian the same, what is going on In tigrigna? The truth it mater is Eritrea will never be part of ethiopia, and Tigray will never be part of Eritrea, but please stop acting like foolish. History never change. Many Tigrgna speakers, our fathers and grandfathers knows the closeness of Tigray and eritrea origin. Tell me guys here, by telling this foolish history who is going to benefit? Tigray or Eritrea? I would say Tigray. They preach brotherhood, we preach and live in Hallucination.

I love, my Tigray. 96% Orthodox Christians and fierce in our faith in Christ before anything else. The center of a powerful empire, and cradle of Ethiopian, including the Tigrian's of Eritrea civilization, and religion. Here look these up Yeha, Atse Kaleb king of Axum and a saint. and Ras wolde Sellasie. and give me some references to support your statement about Eritrea.
