We are only forgotten once others cease to remember us, some people will be only forgotten once humanity itself dies. Then there is no one and nothing left to be sad about.

The majority of writers are poor readers of their own work. Richard Yates and John Cheever provide other good examples.

Death and writing, the desire to leave a mark, to show others the way, like Arne Sarknussem to the centre of the earth, when you realise there is no death the journey becomes a Sunday comic, leading the reader home, to themselves..merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream

it is the heming way of life, literaly...only not to good to folow, greatest dark of all was his alcocholism problem.....on the other way, instead of heming way, without alcochol and those delirant behaver, he would never be the one he became....its a price, diabolic price...

Hemingway benefited greatly from being famous prior to the television era. I don’t mean any disrespect to him but he’s like the characters in singing in the rain. He was perfect for the media of his time but not for media of subsequent generations

Which means what? Subsequent generations should not bother reading his works? His novels and, by the way, 'Singing in the Rain', are timeless.

I would rather be a brilliant writer and a poor speaker than a poor writer and a brilliant speaker. Hemingway didn't write to get the acclaim of others, but rather he wrote because he enjoyed it and had so many stories to tell. I would imagine people would intently listen to his words just to catch a glimpse of the genius that is, Hemingway.

I dont get why he had to hunt and kill wild animals - elephants and Lions etc. Was he trying to prove his masculinity to himself?

Unless you're a vegan, save your anguish because you're a hypocrite. Second...hunting is vital to wildlife management, and a lot of fun. And God made animals delicious for a reason.

Brilliant writer who destroyed his reputation by slaughtering beautiful wild animals for egotistical "trophies." Shame on you Hemmingway.
