Escalante Creek is a gem of the Southwest. It forms from the snowmelt of the Uncompahgre Plateau and typically only runs for a week or two, if at all. We were lucky with our timing and had between 500-600cfs for this run, which was on the morning of 4/28/23.
There is an upper section of Class IV rapids, and a short lower gorge with some stout Class V, namely Escalante Falls. We portaged the falls, and had a good time in '57 Chevy. All the main rapids are labeled.
