I will clarify. "American Spirit" is a call to what it means to be American. This also applies to many other countries. In America, we have been battling an Orwellian state for decades. The elites in our country have eroded our freedom, enslaved us, and killed us off in a systematic fashion through various means. Snake essentially freed mankind from slavery with his decision, hence the American Spirit of freedom. This is very relevant right now, given our current state of affairs. You and I will see the world change drastically very soon. Wait and watch.

Yeah, seeing as this weapon only disables technology invented in the past 70-80 years and the significant amount of this technological information is written down in non-electronic form, I'd guess maybe a few decades. 10 years to recover and repair electric systems, and another 20-30 years to redevelop a lot of the technology. Maybe even sooner especially since the hardware still exists; it just needs to be repaired.

henkestenke I liked this whole movie overall, both movies were good, despite the numerous comparitive characters. I liked how clearly corrupt and arrogant the president was when first seeing Snake, being glad to see him merely to preserve a fake image, yet that smirk gives him away when the count down ends. Snake's Pretty Good line sums everything up on both sides. I just wonder if they knew about his double cross before this point... Oh well, it worked in this case!

Ya know I just realized something, more times than not prop masters for older action films tend to just pick any gun or rifle without any sort of particular reason other than maybe that's all they had access to at the time. The tyrannical government in this movie have issued their soldiers with FALs (AKA the right arm of the free world) I wonder if that was intentional irony or just a very happy coincidence.

I saw parts of this movie a long time ago and always found it pretty cool how the character and settiing reminded me of Big Boss from MGS3. I was legitimately mind blown when I found out that his name was Snake, and even more so whe I found out the game was inspired by the prequel to this film.

I've never understood the hatred people, even fans of John Carpenter, have for this movie but I've also always speculated that attitude was just a little bit appropriate, a mirror of Snake Plissken's relationship with the human race. I loved this movie with a passion as a teenager. In recent years some of it's flaws are a little more apparent with time but if anything saves this film, it's this ending, which is FAR superior to the one in Escape from New York. And so, I still Love this movie.
