This movie is about how happy people are trying to be all the time creating these fake worlds and characters. How all kids grow up in pretend of many things being real just like Santa and the tooth fairy and especially Disneyland. We always try to Escape from tomorrow while unfortunately in the end it's still a much darker world. Still i do Love Disneyland and Disney in general but the message behind this film is indeed true.

And even then, check out the review by That Jerk With A Camera. He films in Disney all the time, both positive and negative, and he is rarely harassed by park security, which seems to be the big deal about this movie, how the producers were all James Bond fuckers sneaking shit in and out of the parks.

I appreciated the themes of the film, but the script was rather pedestrian. As someone who has worked at Disney, first in the parks, later in the studio, I saw soooo many opportunities that were wasted.

Are you at liberty to explain is it more of greedy corporate thing that's wrong with Disney or is it pure satanic evil ?
@StorytellerMatt

Disney is a greedy corporation like everyone else. While the rest of the country bewails its outcast state against the wealthy 1%, they neglect to include the greed of the Disney corporation in their attacks because the company does such a lovely job hiding its capitalist cronies behind the idea that everything is about magic and a charming mouse is in charge.

its all about freedom. i went when i was 12 and disney is so secure and all inclusive, my friend and i just woke up at 6 and left the hotel room and his parents said "well see you at midnight" and that was it. we did what ever we wanted. the buses would take you anywhere you wanted for free. it was like getting to be an adult for a week when you are 12 except even better, an adult with no responsibilities. it might have been the best week of my life.

I made sure to see this at Ebertfest in April of 2013 because it hadn't been released and no one was sure if they would manage to get it released for obvious legal reasons. I'm so glad to see that it's available for streaming on Amazon. It's not a great, great film, but I love what they accomplish, the subversiveness of shooting a feature film on the grounds of the Disney theme parks is worth the price of admission alone!

There is kind of a dark side to Disney World. Like, the new rides are new and glossy and nice, but then there's the really old rides that no one even bothers with all that much like the Carousel of Progress, those, umbrella flying tram things, whatever they are, the people mover. All the old rides are a bit creepy. I think they got rid of a lot of those rides I mentioned but I haven't been in years.

I went to Disneyland in Hong Kong with my wife once when we were still dating... I don't see how anyone could have anything negative to say about it that they couldn't say about any other theme park. It's just a happy place with a nice atmosphere. Come on, people. If you need to hate Disney because it's a big corporation, then just do that, but stop pretending like everything it stands for is pure evil.

Having visited Disney World both as a child and an adult with children of my own, I understood the dark elements portrayed. The surrealist imagery and feeling on the rides and standing in long lines as well as wandering around was very familiar to me. Throw in an apparently loveless marriage, the main character finding out he's fired on the same day of his last trip to Disneyworld, and the stress of being at an amusement park and I'm actually surprised more mental breakdowns don't occur there in real life. It was a creepy, sad, funny, tale that worked on many different levels... at least for me. I'd give it 8 out of 10 stars.

I thought it was pretty cool. The scenes in B/W are worth watching in themselves. (all I had a a kid was B/W, and it shows details very well...) It is interesting to see how the places have changed, and been maintained, since the day they were opened. I have not been back to either resort for over thirty years... As a child, I remember my dad, who had a private plane, flying over the resort of Epcott, during the years they were building it... It was just raw land, and they built it out of nothing... We witnessed the construction of it, by flying out there off and on. My mom remembers Walt Disney driving an old tin lizzy at DisneyLand, and he was a kind man, who would stop, and talk to people. The fact that Disney let this movie go on, shows they approve of it anyways... A lot of free advertising in my book, the controversy of it.... I suppose people are jealous of success, and can rag on something that has been around for years, contributing nothing in life, themselves, and knock somebody's work in the process. The movie is a statement, and nothing more. Watch it if you want, make your own deductions on it....
@TheWaverunners

I don't think Disney approves of the movie so per say, they just know that by going after it, the attention for the film would be much higher than if they just didn't acknowledge it. Just look what happened with North Korea and The Interview.

I never enjoyed Disneyland. My friend grew up on Disney movies and I think developed this unrealistic view of marriage because she was constantly in fantasy-land. At my job, this older woman showed up decked out in Mickey Mouse accessories: Mickey ears, finger and toenails, earrings, mouse-shaped glasses, bracelets, necklace, flip flops t-shirt and pants. She said she went to Disneyland almost every weekend; This confirmed my belief that Disneyland was just a fantasy escape for the mental.

Escape from Tomorrow is an example of a b-movie made by a guerrilla filmmaking company. It did exactly get a good first impression due to the fact that the movie is at a lesser quality than the popular a-movies due to the company having a crew that was mostly made up of friends and family.

this movie looks pretty interesting. It seems to give a different perspective on America's, and also the World's, obsession with Disney and how people can be so sucked into a place, idea, concept that it consumes them with them not even knowing it. I know that many people have a sort of love obsession with disney but at the same time, that facade of happiness covers up such a level of dislike and distrust.

"Normal people" also don't do extraordinary things. They stay "safe" trying to follow the perceived 'norms' of society; afraid to stand out in any way, ending up being forgotten in a shorter time. Walt Disney himself was a forward thinker and did things that nobody else did. Who is your favorite artist? Think about how they're different from the others. They succeed and stand out because they're different> Dare to be different!
