It is NOT a hollow grind. It is a saber grind with a secondary bevel. I own the same knife but with the Orange G-10 scales. I used sandpaper to remove the black coating off the saber grind portion of the blade and used a Work Sharp Sharpener to convex the secondary bevel. The edge is razor sharp and it cuts way better now. It is what it is, a small knife to be used in conjunction with a bigger knife Imho.

Its nice seeing others that came to the same conclusion. I hated the bevel of my Izula but I just re shaped it with my Work Sharp Field and it cuts hair now.

In my honest opinion if your lookin for a small knife for EDC/camping/ food prep/ back country…. You really can’t beat the Izula 2..!! I carry it every single day and use it for everything…!! Love love love it..!! Maybe give it a whirl..! I think the longer handle makes a world of difference..!

you were expecting a neck knife of this size to be a full out prep knife? I think the disappointment comes from thinking its more capable of something it is not intended for.

Dude these survivalist types are pretty ridiculous. It's a tiny knife! It cuts string and opens boxes and looks cute. That's it.

Thanks for an honest review. I'm a big ESEE fan and I have quite a few of their knives but I don't have a Candiru. At this point I'm not sure if I'm going to get one or not. At first blush I'm not really sure what the "killer app" or role for this knife is. It's very small but the Izula and Izula II are also quite compact and seem more capable.

I feel like the 3 or even Izula would be a better fit for what you need. It’s a great little knife, just not maybe meant for all you want it to be.

Use it more the coating is holding it back from performing well all coated esees drag until it’s smoothed by use I was glad to hear you say you were going to keep and try more you can also take a fine file to the spine and make a 90 degree section for fire steel

Did you see Vertical Limit, belay knife. LOL. I would rather carry my Mora 01, which I do in my Ribs pack and never know it is there. Which is why I find myself carting a few knives. But you convinced me not to get this knife. I carry a caribiner knife for my be,an knife. Thanks for a great video.

You picked a extremely dry piece of wood. That wood would present a challenge to the very best survival knife. You obviously came to this review already with your bias of not liking the knife. You are right/ you are not a knowledgeable knife guy.

You have to get the right tool for the job. That knife is great for some jobs, but most jobs in the woods that will not work well, Cleaning game and stuff like that would be okay, but processing wood is a no go on something that you just cant get leverage on.

Bummer the included sheath is vertical carry only. I really enjoy horizontal carry with the Izulas and the ESEE injection molded sheath. I would totally go for this as a neck knife if they made colored sheaths.

Purpose a knife this size serves is that it's legal to carry in US post offices and most other federal buildings because the blade length is under 2.5 inches.

its pretty ironic how people are comparing a neck knife that is supposed to be used for MINOR daily task. like opening boxes. letters. cutting string.. tape. paper. sharpening pencils or knotching wood. people are comparing apples to oranges when u try to "bushcraft" with a knife this size. not everything has to be SURVIVAL. or for use or potential use as a emergency bushcrafter. why cant a neck knife just be what it is...imho it isnt fair to the knife to be compared like so. it makes me question the compentency of people trying to use this knife for other than its intended purpose. you want a bush knife. then get one.. the way i see people on youtube employ this knife and the expectations people have of it to perform like its larger counterparts is a down right shame.

Lisa Ray i honestly don’t like to carry neck knives so i don’t know a lot about options. I got this one with the idea it would be more than a neck knife. This or the Izula are good options for an EDC neck knife.

I feel like you are asking to much from such a small blade, not really meant for that kind of use. Probably better suited for cutting fishing line, scaling and cleaning fish, things of that nature. It’s there to compliment a larger knife
