Just because he was found not guilty of the charges against him does not mean he did not kill those people… anyone with half a brain knows he killed them.. and the only reason he was found not guilty was because Marcia Clark and Chris Darden went for gold with the charges. They also were absolutely dreadful at jury selection and Marcia Clark might be the most disillusioned prosecution lawyer I have ever seen in my life with how she expected African American jury members to come to a guilty verdict directly following the Rodney king incident. She might be the worst person at reading a room in the history of people.. and my god.. the absolute idiocy of Darden suggesting OJ try the glove on.. Anyone.. Another above average player common pile commando. Sure they played many years for the same team but too many non-great players are getting in. Sure Pete messed up but so is the HOF. It is other than a greatness vote. Dave Concepcion played 19 years for one team and was a great player on great teams; why is he not mentioned for HOF? Trammell in and Concepcion not in? Many say Michael Jordan was allegedly betting on basketball in the 90's. During his first retirement press conference he stated, "Five years down the road, if the urge comes back, if the Bulls will have me, if David Stern lets me back in the league, I may come back." Why would he say if David Stern will have him back? It sounds like he was forced out, and to save face he retired quietly. He was under investigation for gambling prior to his retirement. In fact, the day he retired the investigation stopped. Some give that as a reason he left basketball the first time. If Michael Jordan had bet on basketball like Pete Rose bet on baseball, than there is no reason Pete Rose is not in the hall of fame today...

Stephen A. hurt his argument by asserting that several members of the 1919 Black Sox have been inducted to the HOF. None of them have, even though two of the greatest players of all time, Buck Weaver and Shoeless Joe Jackson, were on that team and constantly petitioned baseball to be reinstated, to no avail. And the evidence shows that Weaver might not have been guilty of anything but sitting in on a couple of meetings of the crooked players, and Jackson appears to have played the Series on the level, as he hit and fielded very well. Nonetheless, at the very least the new commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, decided they were guilty by association and banned them for life along with the other guys who threw the series, and none of them got anywhere near the Hall. Well, that's not entirely true -- the owner of the White Sox, Charles Comiskey, got in to the Hall, even though it is very clear that he was alerted to what was going on throughout the World Series but was only concerned with covering up the scandal, not reporting it honestly to the commission that ruled baseball at that time. But he was an owner, not a lowly peon in a uniform, so as baseball royalty he got a pass. His getting into the HOF, though, makes about as much sense as Bowie Kuhn getting in. I would love to see Pete Rose in the Hall, as he was one of my favorite players (I saw him get 5 hits in the first game of a doubleheader back in '76, and when he came up a 6th time in extra innings he hit a line drive that was caught with a leap at the centerfield wall. Just a great performance.) Statistically and intrinsically he is far and away one of the greatest players ever. But the rules against gambling had been laid down after Landis took charge, and not only did Pete defy them, he lied over and over and over about it. Comparing his situation with that of steroid users who get reinstated (even multiple times) is really a false analogy: there were no actual rules against steroid use when that era began, and it's very clear that when guys like McGwire, Sosa and Bonds started breaking records the owners and the commissioner were all too happy to turn a blind eye because the ballparks were filling again after the disastrous strike of the mid-90's, and they were delighted that the coffers were overflowing. It was only when the media began investigating, and the records got so absurd, that baseball began to lay down stringent rules against steroid use. Also, as Bonds got closer and closer to breaking Hank Aaron's record the commissioner, Bud Sielig, really started having a change of heart about steroids because Hank Aaron was his favorite player and a close personal friend. But, again, PED's are not like gambling. They shouldn't be part of the game, but they don't entirely threaten the integrity of the game as a player or manager who could possibly be compromised by gamblers or organized crime does.

Stephen A. was mentioning two members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox who are in the Hall of Fame: he must have been referring to Eddie Collins and Ray Schalk. Those guys though weren't among the 8 banned from baseball for throwing games.

And there is evidence based on play alone that Joe Jackson might not have thrown the games. Now he took money, though I believe he did return the money, so if he never threw games and returned the money, I think he deserves to be reinstated.

Well Stephen Smith. What do you think about a guy that shoves a 10 year old boy up against a wall (ME) because he asked you for a autograph???? Yes, he should be in the hall fame but, guess they didn't check for steroids during that time period.

Numbers wise he should be in the hall of fame. Pete is his own enemy with what happened to him. Saling his autograph outside of Cooper's town and MLB offices reasons yes not in

Pete is the literal undisputed GOAT in baseball by the numbers. On the field, he has more value than Barry Bonds, Sosa, Ken Griffey JR (who is top 3 all time), even more value on the field than Bryce Harper and Mike Trout at this moment, can hit the ball better than any player I just listed left and right handed, PLAYED AS A PLAYER/MANAGER, and has a host of all time records (Ichiro hit 2000 hits in minor league china ball where 80% of players couldn't lace petes cleats), 0 roids, 0 PED's, all organic, Charlie Hustle us the GOAT of all baseball.

I've seen a lot of players in baseball and football that should have banned them from their sport! Roberto Alomar, spitting in an umpires face, Steve Howe, had countless number of problems with street drugs. Players going into stands to fight fans. Mets player throwing firecrackers at Dodger fans and seriously injuring them. A football player punches and knocks out his girlfriend in an elevator. Another football player runs a dog fighting business. Those are just some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head. All of these athletes never got banned from their sport! They had mentioned about criminals getting their freedom back with less time for punishment! The message I got from the Pete Rose, ban is you can commit any crime but never gamble!!! Tommy Lasorda's message can be tossed in the trash! I grew up in the beach cities of L.A. and was a Dodger fan until I saw a new Dodger that just signed a 325 million dollar contract and took a knee to our nations colors! I haven't seen a game since and didn't even know the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series until days later! I remember when he pulled other starting pitchers out of a game after giving up only a couple of runs and when Fernando Valenzuela pitched, Lasorda kept him in the game until he gave up 8 or more runs and very little chance for the team to come back. I would say that politics is very much a part of sports and I think, Pete Rose, pissed off the wrong politician! If we had a national vote to get Pete Rose, into the HOF, I think it would be surprising to the idiots who wants to keep him out! Pete Rose, earned a spot in the Hall! I'll not watch another game until he's inducted! I haven't eaten any ice cream since 2008. So, that will be a piece of cake!!! Feb. 2022

As a player , what he did as a player. He made Money for baseball in working 25 years 61-86..minor league to the major league. . Getting his team to championships. The guy on the right is a hypocrite in that betting has , is tolerated . There is professional betting . People involved in sports and broadcasting are making money than and today and tomorrow.

I agree with Smith. The simple fact is that Rose did not do anything to affect the results of a single game in an unethical manner. Everyone who used performance-enhancing drugs did exactly that. Rose did not cheat, the others all did. That the others should be forgiven and he should not be is a moral travesty. This is not Black Sox because Rose never bet against his own team. The argument was made that Rose should be penalized because he affected how bookies calculated odds? I’m sorry, but it was not Rose’s responsibility to uphold the ethics of oddsmakers, and that that should outweigh upholding the ethics of the game itself is beyond asinine.

I think Stephen A is incorrect. Not only aren 't ANY of the players from the Black Sox scandal that were involved, eight of them, in the Hall of Fame, but some of the players that didn't even take money, but just knew about it and didnt alert the club, were also thrown out of baseball. Joe Jackson, who did take money, but if you look at his stats, he certainly didn't seem to throw the world series, also was thrown out. I really think that the only thing that has kept Pete Rose out of the HOF is his own arrogance.

I don't think it's relevant if Rose says he gambled, but never against the Reds. For years he maintained that he never gambled period, but eventually admitted to that. It looks like a slippery slope. Upholding the ban serves an important purpose. If they don't uphold the ban and eventually let him in, that sends a message to current players that they can do the same, be reprimanded for a period of time, but it'll ultimately amount to a slap on the wrist and no lasting punishment is worth worrying about.

You can’t gamble on a game where your a coach or a manager… It completely ruins the game. Whether he only bet on his own team to win as he alleges we can never really believe that or know if that’s true… plus it makes more sense to bet against your team… Throwing a game is much easier than winning a game. I hope Pete Rose has a good life and he was a great great player but he should not be in the hall of fame
