Morocco is a wonderful country. The food, the weather, the mountains, the sea, the desert, the tradition and most importantly the people are second to none. I love this exotic country and it’s people. One day, I am going to partially live there.

Pastries in Morocco have no French influence it's the other way around. Almost all the Pastries you can find in modern day Morocco can be found in cook books dating back to the 1200s and 1300s. The same goes for the traditional moroccan dishes like pastilla which was first mentioned in the 1200s and was exported to moroccan Spain (al andalous) where it was then made using seafood. The new seafood version was brought back to Morocco when the moors (Muslims and jews) were chased out of Spain after the reconquista in the 1400s.

Thanks so much for the additional context John, that is really interesting. We were going by what we were told, but now I'm going to look into this and learn some more. The history in this region of the mixing and influencing of cultures is so fascinating, isn't it?

@@PureDetour even if you only start from when morocco was first established as an independent country in the 6th century, you can read some incredible stories. Let alone if you go back to the 7th century A.D with the Maures who built their capital where the Romans built volubilis and where a roman emperor was later born. Volubilis (walili) is an ancient city near the city of moulay Idriss zerhoun (built by the first king of morocco in the 6th century). It is all intertwined in a mysterious way. Enjoy your trip in Morocco, it's a very fascinating and ancient country.

I've never had a seafood bastilla but I had a chicken one. Absolutely delicious with the egg and the ground almonds and even the cinnamon and sugar on top. I've eaten that so many times. Also their grilled lamb chops sprinkled with cumin and salt is killer. Did you get a chance to try BM over there for breakfast? I remember going to the Old City in Taza up on the hill and I got a chance to eat an "O" right out of the hot oil sprinkled with sugar. Those are yeast donuts that they make right in front of you using only their hands to make the round o-shape in the middle of the pastry. Another food that I had a lot and still make every summer including last week is zalook which is an eggplant salad that was cooked and then eaten chilled with bread along with another cooked/spiced salad of spiced carrots.
@PureDetour
2 жыл бұрын
I actually preferred the seafood bastilla to the chicken as the seafood one was fully savoury while I find the chicken ones a bit too sweet for my taste. And yes, the lamb chops are out of this world, aren't they! What is BM? Not sure we tried?

I guess it’s a matter of individual taste and I would have such a hard time making a list of best! I, for example, like Italian food much better than French. So everyone has their own taste. I also love spicy Thai food! What’s your favourite?

@@PureDetour the burguer is of German origin and during the First World War the American soldiers who introduced it to the USA and improved it I am a Neapolitan pizza maker but the pizza finds its origins in ancient Egypt but the Italians improved it and made it famous frankly I have worked in France and Switzerland and their cuisine uses alcohol and Muslims do not eat pork or alcohol in cooking we respect everyone's personal taste but oriental cuisine is healthy and the spices give it more flavor I prefer taco sandwiches for example or Neapolitan wood oven pizza or Italian pasta but we Moroccans all over the world are too attached to our traditions and we often cook at home Moroccan cuisine has always attracted tourists to visit Morocco I wish you a good stay in Morocco

Food history is so fascinating, right? And such an amazing way to be introduced to a culture. We love the Neapolitan pizza too! yum. I like to cook too and try to add the flavours and techniques that I try when I travel into my own home cooking recipes, which is fun. Thanks so much for checking out our videos! We have just left Morocco, but there are still a few more videos coming out. One thing I already miss about Morocco are the olives. I thought they were the best I've tried yet!

Interesting videos but you are giving a wrong image of Morocco. What you show is just a small side of Morocco and Moroccans. I , as a Moroccan see what you filmed for the first time. The biggest side is life in cities where we drive in big roads, live in high building apartments and go shopping in malls. We work in offices, banks, etc.

Hi! Of course in such a short time we cannot tell all the stories of the Moroccans, we can only talk about our experience as tourists. Thanks so much for watching!
