I like Stag, there good guns. But there prices are starting to get to the point, why not just spend almost the same amount of money and get a much better quality gun. I have a IWI Zion 15, 16" barrel with a Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10x and a Daniel Defense foregrip. I can almost buy 2 Zion, which I think is the better rifle, and more accurate for the price of a Stag now.

Mean no offense, but 99% of civilians don't require a 'top notch AR build'. Most will never shoot enough to wear out a budget build, don't train with professionals and are horribly out of shape. First, well done explaining to the beginner or old dogs like myself who sometime forget the small things (not very often when it comes to pew pews) needed on a well rounded AR platform without breaking the bank. With that being said there is one thing that you’ll always always always want on your platform/s and that is some type of iron sights. I can assure you, because it’s happened to us all, that whatever optic or red dot you’re running that battery life will end and so your red/green reticle will end as well, so do yourself a favor, save up your pennies for a good if not great set of iron sights. MBUS(Magpul), Troy Industries, Midwest Industries, Daniel Defense, or Scalarworks. Also, I would go with a QD optic mount (Midwest Industries makes a great one) so if that optic fails take it off so you’re only focused on those irons. Last, which someone has already mentioned and that’s the BCG. She’s the heart and soul of any AR platform, so getting a solid one with solid performance is key. Those are my personal gripes, but to each their own and again well done explaining what routes you can go to get a good AR. Be safe, be blessed, and keep those EDC’s on your hips.

May have found the best person to look to for a budget build. I can't be sure until I receive the upper and I get some time behind it. This guy puts a lot of effort into putting together bang for your buck parts, with proper technique. If you take budget oriented pieces, and you make sure to lap your reciever, bed your barrel, torque everything properly, etc you can end up with a 1moa banger of a rifle that will last too. Yes, you can buy from companies like Aero/BA, Stag, etc but there's a chance you might not get the most out of the parts they give you. From what I've seen the people who've purchased uppers this guy has assembled have been really impressed, his warranty service is great, and his email response time was extremely fast (within a few hours of me sending him an email), and he even shipped the upper the same evening. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.
I have an "inexpensive" 16" PSA that has thousands of rounds through it without a single failure of any kind, no ftf, no fte, no problems ever. It was a $500 rifle but after upgrading and adding my load out it's around a $1100 rifle now. It's loaded out much like your Stag, 1-6 LPVO, Magpul, sling, better trigger, flashlight. I also don't like the vertical grips and use mine like you do yours.

A good magnifier doesn't hurt either. I know LPVO's are the new rave, and they are good - but only for distance shooting. I'm sure if you train hard, you can work them in CQB, but it's just far more simpler to flip a magnifier to the side in a self defense situation. I have a 3x magnifier on both of my rifles and it's just intuitive for me. Im not going to be able to reach out as far as I could with an LPVO but if you have to use an magnification, its not an immediate threat. I just wanted a do-all set up just in case it is my only firearm and I had to use it for self defense and hunting. If I was were an avid hunter or training for distance shooting at the range, I would definitely use an LPVO. I've used a buddy's LPVO at the range past 300 yards and it makes life a whole lot easier.

Also the streamlight protac rail mount lights are dual fuel, rechargeable 18650 batteries OR CR123s, plus they accept standard surefire aftermarket offset/mlok/drop down/etc. mounts... I do like the idea of using a close drop mout on the streamlight and keeping the factory tail cap button switch with your rifle kit as a backup because pressure pads are a failure point (for ALL brands) 😉 Olight do come with well designed mounts and the ability to quick detach from the rifle, and to quickly use the integrated rear push button by removing the magnetic tape switch, but they are absolutely NOT Streamlight quality, durability, waterproofing and not even close to the classic Surefire Scout lights! Also they only use proprietary magnetic rechargeable batteries, which is handy until it isn't 😉 The Inforce WML gen 2 (gen 1s were prone to structural damage, so avoid those if buying used) is another good budget contender along with the Streamlight, 800 lumens vs. the 1000 from the streamlight, but the candela and throw are pretty darn great for the money, it's low profile, button only activated, has a great mode/lockout switch, nothing needed for use but batteries and a picitanny rail to mount it on, you can even mount it at 12 o'clock for ambidextrous use (depending on front sight arrangements, and assuming you aren't running a lamb aka infrared laser in that position) We the poors shall not be infringed! 😆👍But the newer dual fuel surefire scout lights (especially models that include mlok drop mounts or similar to save a few $) are still the king when it comes to out of the box durability and quality, along with endless future customization options... I'd 1000% put more money towards a higher quality optic or rifle first before worrying about joining the surefire scout crowd, but that would be another good savings goal to set along the road to nightvision, they are slightly overpriced in my opinion, but US made, great US based customer service/parts manufacturers both factory and aftermarket, plus some have literally been proven bomb proof when the rifle was destroyed lol, ACOGs also get to claim this... And maybe lets not forget the soldiers that were there to document these events who aren't made out of high quality aluminum alloy and steel... 👍🇺🇸

I personally went with the Diamondback DB10. 18” barrel I’ve got a 1-6 sig lpvo. Angles grip a budget light Magpul bipod Along with an sig Romeo red dot. As much as I wish i could afford multiple guns I had to settle for one So I went with the .308. If SHTF and I have to bug out I wouldn’t be able to take a collection anyway My build isn’t perfect for any one scenario but pretty damn good across the board. So far I’m pretty damn happy with it Better parts will come but for now it’s working well

i used to put lights on my rifle until i realized it just makes you an easy target at night. I stay away from the lights now. A sherriff buddy of mine is the one who convinced me of it. As during training he mentioned it was dumb of them to use lights and give away position and the others thought he was crazy. Well he waited for them as they came in with their lights, didnt use his and killed all of them in a training exercise.

Yoooo!! Elliott, thank you dude, great info, I’ve always been more of a CQC kind of guy and feel more comfortable around handguns, but your videos had me curious, so without letting my OCD kick in, I went ahead and got my hands on the stag. Nothing beats your discount links, snatch that 45% off and boom, should be arriving any time. Thanks again. Looking forward to more of your content

The only thing (in my opinion) that you left out that I feel is of importance are iron sights. It’s always good to have iron sights and know how to use them. I also thing a good quality BCG is important. But quality doesn’t always mean expensive. Other than that I general run a short vertical like the magpul vertical grip. I agree with your assessment. I’m just getting into the LPVO, MPVO, and HPVO optics. General I’ve ran red dot/holographics and added a magnifier if need be or if it’s what I was issued. Oh. And training. Good or even adequate equipment doesn’t doing anyone any good without some sort of training with the system.

I have a LPVO on one of my cheap rifles (budget wise) and I have an eotech with a magnifier on my more “expensive” set up . I prefer the eotech . Both are great for what they do . But eotech is much better (for me) for up close . Giving the fact that a LPVO can and will slow you down when it comes to having the right contact with the lens (eye relief) . Causing scope shadows if you’re not rested right enough in the stock or having a bad cheek weld . But at the end of the day , whatever you have . Just train train train and little/big things like these can be overcome or at least you can work around them . Great video by the way.

Brother, I understand you’re wanting to stay at 16” to avoid the ATF’s hungry gaze, but there is a truly excellent alternative; grab a 14.5” barrel, which has almost identical velocity to a 16” (the difference is typically something between 50-80fps, which is negligible when we’re in the mid to high 2,000’s). Then, grab a Surefire Warcomp (open tine), and have it pinned and welded. This counts as barrel length, and brings you well over 16”, while giving you a noticeably shorter overall length. On top of that, the Warcomp is a KILLER muzzle device; it kills almost 100% of muzzle flash, even in the pitch black of night, while also having a built-in compensator (that is, a lot of tiny holes), and if you tune them facing to the sky? They actively fight muzzle risen I’m telling you, the military went with 14.5”’for a reason (excellent compromise between being easily operated , weildy and fast while still retaining excellent velocity / lethality at range ). If you combine with a pin and welded Warcomp (which also serves as a quick mount for a surefire SOCOsmmdkkee

I agree with most of what you’re saying except that 25 yard engagement. If you can’t point and shoot an AR out to 25 yards you need to do a little more practice or get a laser…….

In 556 I won’t go below 16in. 556 needs velocity too be effective, if you are taking about shorter barrels 300 blackout is the caliber to use.

A 12” 6.5 Grendel will all around perform far better than a 16” 556. The only benefit to using 556 is that it’s the cartridge the rifle was designed for originally and it probably the most common rifle round in America; but that’s why I reload…

Ya I don't agree with your advice on BCG's not being that important. If a barrel is the heart of a rifle the BCG is the brains of a rifle! So it's actually very important to get a reliable and trusted BCG. Some would argue its the most important aspect.

Agreed. You shouldn't get a great barrel and just an "ok" bcg. Barrel and bcg are BY FAR the two most important parts of a rifle build. It's the difference between being accurate and reliable vs being inaccurate and unreliable. Both need to be the best you can afford!

I was with you until you said the bolt carrier isn’t that important. The heart and soul of a good rifle is the barrel land bcg. Not to mention you can get a lot better rifle than Stag for the same money. For $1300ish, I’ll take a BCM or SOLGW. Stag is a decent gun but you can get a lot better rifle for the money

I use PSA with a primary arms raptor slx 1-6 FFP, stream light protac, and the gun runs doing everything I need to do with it fast shooting , hunting , put thousands of rounds ,not even a single malfunction, it has not spent a full day in a safe I bang the rifle around and train pretty hard with it crawling around. People who say poverty pony rifles aren't reliable need to relax

Ask any half decent armorer. The bcg and barrel are the 2 most important parts in your gun. Will a $60 psa bcg work? Yes but will it last? Not like a good quality bcg like sionics

I suggest swapping your front rail out on the sig m400, I only say that because it’s my primary rifle as well and switching it out was life changing, barrel stays cooler, weighs less. Switched to an Aero Atlas S-One for the front handgaurd. Eotech EXPS3-0 for the optic, Cloud Defensive REIN 3.0 for the flashlight and Magpul MS3 sling.

I don’t mind a qd sling/ point but do you really need to get your sling off/on your gun fast? If not just get 550 and place it where you want it. No noise and sturdy. You can also do a 14.5 barrel and get a flash hider that brings your build to 16in. Like the dead air Sierra 5 flash hider and can combo.

I have a good thought about the optic, and came to conclusion that a red dot is superior. In shtf, you won’t be fighting Russians, they aren’t coming. You’ll be fighting other civilians who are scavenging for supplies. You won’t be making that over 300y shot I believe, and if an enemy is that far away, you should try to escape firefight in the first place. Always think with your brain before your gun. Also red dot has unlimited eye relief, which is big for me, and with a magnifier I can reach 300y no problem. Also red dot covers the area of the spread, which shows approximate area in which the bullet will impact target.

Ballistic Advantage guarantees 1 MOA or better accuracy so if you can't manage that with match ammo, you got a bad barrel. I know that with my B.A. barrel I'm usually getting sub MOA groups even with standard ammo.
