Just picked up a 2 column Journal ESV today. Wow!! I like taking notes. I will absolutely take advantage of the 2" margins! I had another Bible for studying ( NKJV thin line) but I think this ESV will be my new study, church, small group and schooling Bible! This thing is AWESOME!

A lot to digest😳 Thanks for going through all this....I’m going through the exact same thing right now. Trying to figure out my ‘system’. It’s been driving me 🤪. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one out there going through. On a separate note, I watched in your video how you use the audio Bible as you read to help ‘pull, you through reading. Wow! That has been great! It keeps me on course without getting sidetracked. Excellent advise. Keep up the great work! I always look forward to your videos 👍

Great stuff Jason! I’ve been looking for a method to the highlighting and note taking method, and you most definitely have ended my search. With that being said, what style marker cases do you use and where can I find something similar? In His service Dan

I know this is an older video of yours, that I'm just now viewing, but I wanted to comment that I use blue for prophetic/predictive prophecy verses. (My reply to your additional blue that you hadn't yet figured out what to use for highlighting). Anyway, I enjoy your content. Just subscribed and wanted to give you support of prayer and likes! God bless you and yours, brother!

Hey Jason, I was just curious if you were a fan of the words of Christ not being in red in some of the ESV bibles? Do you think them being in black would be a help in studying or not? I’m not against it at all, I’m just used to them being in red. I was just curious what your thoughts were. I thought you had mentioned it before in one of your videos but wasn’t sure. Thanks
@TearUpYourBible

At first, I wasn't sure about it... but I really like it now. It actually helps me better when writing notes, but cause the red gets "hidden" by that markings easier.

You are fun to watch!! Thanks for the good and helpful highlighting tips! I am just about to take the writing in my Bible plunge. 😬😊I have highlighted here and there, but to mark it up is hard for me, because I somehow feel it is disrespectful. But I can see that it is a good thing in order to help to get the Word in your head. I have the tools now, I just have to get past my reservations.

The best way would probably be to get a bible that is designed for writing (like this one) and one that's cheap. Then, it's wrong NOT to write in it. lol

I think a journaling or wide margin bible (basically a bible you can write a lot in) is probably essential for this type of method to work.

You can always write a number by the note and the text and then highlight the number in both spots.

It s a great technique But instead of drawing these messy lines use nombers. Like if many things of one page will be in the same categories, to know which box is related to what section of the paragraph put a small number next to it and the same next to his box, just like they do for words in a books when they explain it lately...or down the page... u get it?👀i mean that s an advice. Maybe u already tried it. Because to me the lines make it dirty and too messy😱😱i just can t handle it. I like neat pages🙂.

@TearUpYourBible

It’s a certainly not a regular thing. If I’m back in the passage or preparing to teach, I’ll come back. Youre right, it’s the act of writing it... it’s like branding the thought in your memory.

Hey I'm an AG pastor as well! I've preached out of the ESV mainly but I switched to the NIV 2011 a couple of years ago. I'm thinking about switching back to the ESV or maybe even the NASB. I'm not sure yet. As far as bible notes I use Onenote on iPad with an apple pencil to hand write notes beside the passage. If you have any advice for choosing between the NASB or ESV for preaching please let me know

Ryan Penley let’s connect bro!!!! Come back home to the literal translations!!! 😂😂😂 I’m sure you saw this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/1o-uya2gh4VqZ4Y But as far as preaching, if I’m consistently in one translation... ESV. I think it’s the easiest thing to move an entire church to. It’s a great translation, but the product line from crossway really sets them apart. I’m like... in major want for an iPad with an Apple Pencil. I don’t want to be a minimalist... but I need to do some minimizing and that could play a huge roll! Is it a game changer?

Grace For Life TV that would be awesome! I just started using the iPad. I actually just found a program that a Russian (I think Russian at least) Christian made that will set up a OneNote Notebook for you and split it up by testament - then book of the Bible - then chapter of that book. It’s pretty sweet though and with Apple just releasing a budget iPad with Apple Pencil support I think every pastor should use it.

I know this is completely off topic, but is what are your thoughts on denominations? I go to and have been raised in a Baptist church, but to be honest I say I'm a Christian. I personally I believe that they don't matter, but I would like to hear your thoughts.

The Caiyote Experience they are good for “tribes” and bad for “division.” For instance, I’m an ordained Assemblies of God minister. I’m Pentecostal yet practical in theology, so I’m really comfortable with my “denomination” because I know from church to church it’s a pretty good chance we’ll have that in common. HOWEVER, in regards to salvation and my views concerning grace, I probably line up more with Baptists than I do with most Pentecostals. So my thoughts are pretty nominal lol. I like them for join with people where there’s a particular area where we need common ground... but they’re bad when we use them to separate amongst the body. The arm can and should be an arm, should function like an arm, should do the work of an arm... but if it pulls away from the chest, it doesn’t turn out well for either.

Yikes! I’m tired. 😳 I thought you were going to say one of your kids got hold of your Bible with all those markings and lines. I write in my Bible....green is Holy Spirit...blue is grace. But my brain would be in a constant cramp with that system. Hope you get it figured out.

Granny Jan well, keep in mind I’m an ordained minister with a teaching and preaching ministry, so I have to manage a little more from the book on a day-to-day basis. It actually ends up working pretty good because I can eyeball it know what I’ve seen in the page in the past. MUCH BETTER than my “free flowing” system, where I just marked up at random. After a couple months, I feel like it’s really looked in. At this point I’m actually excited about my next Bible because the system is getting pretty ironed out.
