My mom heard Whitney Houston sing in a church with her mother when Whitney was still a teenager. After the performance, my mom went up to her and said, "Ms. Houston, you are so beautiful, and have the best voice I've ever heard in my life. You're going to be a big star." She said Whitney was soft-spoken and responded, "Why, thank you so much."

This appeared on the "Paul Jabara and Friends" album that came out in 1982. It heralded the appearance of a new star. All the djs were buzzing about this cut. Her voice is even purer than on "Saving All My Love" and that's saying something! She was truly The Voice of the last 25 years of the 20th century. R.I.P. Ms Houston. True early fans in Washington D. C. (and probably elsewhere) remember this magnificent song being played in clubs BEFORE her ARISTA debut! Brother Michael was a perfectionist, even though so was Nippy thing is, Nippy never recorded or sang anything the same thing twice and MJJ who was a metronomic (most probably not a real word) in his particular OCD form of musicianship couldn't deal with that. Everyone's idea of perfection is so different. They probably did record as they were friends but just never released the track or tracks. IJS Also record label execs usually make the last decisions plus the reps usually like the most popular opinion to generate more sales and a Whitney/Michael situationship might have changed views which = sales.

Weird...I get this image of a mermaid put to a microphone to sing, imitating the ways and stylings of singers during this era with her superior musical ability and knowledge, as all mermaids have. Wow, that would make for a great movie!
