It’s interesting to find out that originally, Druig was meant to be part of a love triangle, with him and Sersi having some chemistry and this adding to his and Ikaris’ dislike of each other. However, Chloe Zhao noted that Lauren Ridloff and Barry Keoghan had such good chemistry and instead wrote them as a complementary couple (with more subtly and resulting better results, in mine and many others’ opinions)… hilariously, in the comics Makkari was originally a male character (who had been romantically involved with SERSI at times), as were Ajak and Sprite; the comics wrote in a way for them to be constantly reincarnating and sometimes change gender, ethnicity, etc. without issue. On Thena and Gil, I don’t think their relationship has been specified by the actors or Zhao; my reading is that of a deep platonic friendship, a love without sexual desire, but IF one reads it as romantic I’m not against that. As for the Celestials, it’s easy to just call Arishem the “real villain” while ignoring or forgetting that he does what he does for a reason; without the cycle of sacrificing planets to let new Celestials be born, new stars and worlds and a multiplication of life in the universe would not happen. Do we give up the lives now for ones that aren’t yet existing? In the end I think there’s a point that Arishem hasn’t been the most efficient or compassionate godly being (Kro, the Deviant who evolved with Ajak and Gilgamesh’s powers, understandably resented that they were never given a real opportunity to live their own lives and were culled by their own creators) but he’s not malevolent necessarily.

I believe that Tiamut helped Sersei end the Emergence. It was well on its way to happening, when Thanos snapped half the universe to dust. Tiamut was already awake, and on the verge of bursting out. And then...it just got stuck like that, "mid-birth". For five years, it was awake, and trapped. For five years, it felt all the pain and despair of 4 billion people who had lost everything. It watched them struggle to carry on with dogged determination and tenacity. It watched as so many fought so hard to keep going, and to help others who couldn't help themselves anymore. And then, it watched a handful of brave souls bend the very nature of time itself, WITHOUT an Infinity Stone, to undo Thanos' horrible crime upon existence...and to fight him a second time to defend the lives they'd restored all across the cosmos. When one man ruined the universe, it wasn't some supreme being that set things right, no true godly entity to stop the Mad Titan, not even Arishem himself that set his hand to stop the holocaust that followed...but just a few amazing warriors and their friends, from a backwater planet doomed to perish anyway. Tiamut saw it all. Felt it all. And made a choice. This entire movie...is Tiamut committing suicide, so that the people of Earth can live on and become even greater. It decided that the potential of this one world far outweighs anything a single Celestial could ever offer. Tiamut held back as long as it could. Tiamut awakened the remaining deviants one last time, to bring about enough chaos force others to take action...and then waited for either that chaos to result in Tiamut's end, or an opportunity to end itself. And when the Unimind opened the conduit to the source of Cosmic Power, Tiamut gave Sersei everything she needed to accomplish her goal.

In the comics, Celestial beings experimented on living creatures throughout the galaxies/universes to upgrade the species. The Kree were among them. As the Kree became advanced beings, they started doing experiments of their own. The Celestials made super powered human beings called Eternals, the real ones. It seems the MCU direction is going the A.I. droid route instead. So there were other beings made which didn't look as humanoid as the super powered Eternal creations. They looked alien. They are called Deviants. Thanos is a Deviant but he came from 2 Eternals. This movie didn't mention that so maybe that's changed too. Over millions of years later, the super powers became dormit in the descendants of those beings....hence the "X gene" (coined by Charles Xavier of Xmen) needing exposure to something radioactive and/or traumatic enough to shock their mutant abilities awake. Examples: Bruce and his cousin would be a lineage of a Deviant because they change into a different species. Gamma Ray space radiation awakened their abilities. Steve Rogers shot up with a mystery formula that no one knows where Erskine made his out of, and he went into a radiation gamma ray chamber built by Howard Stark. Steve's body could adapt and manifest abilities because of him having the X gene. Tony Stark used the Infinity Stones (which are space radiation magical stones) and died. He was not a descendant. Monica Rambeau went through the radiation force field put up by Wanda. Woo said people couldn't get in. He could feel that he couldn't get in. Monica saw the force field before she ever got sucked in, so that tells us her ability was weak but present, just like Wanda's. It acknowledged her x gene and so she was allowed in. Her getting exposed so many times unleashed her power full on...more on that in The Marvels movie. My theory is: that she had the dormit gene, but her mother did not. Perhaps Monica and Maria were blasted by radiation weaponry from maybe Carol's enemies while looking for her. Monica survived unharmed, but her mom got stage 4 cancer from it. Since the origin of the Eternals were changed in this movie, I'm hoping that the writers come up with a good story arc that makes sense because they still need to tie in all the mutants into the main story arc of phase 5...and they've already spoken about mutants starting with the Ms. Marvel show. One thing about Ikiris that I believe. I don't think he had control over his programming. Idk if you've ever watched WESTWORLD (please do if you haven't), but Cersei would be his "cornerstone" that he was programmed to protect. I think at the end of the movie when he was faced with the dilemma to kill her, was the first time he advanced passed his programming and became sentient for the first time. He made a choice on his own and decided to not hurt her and destroy himself instead because of the shame. Now, they could bring him back, if he died, because he is a machine and they've been brought back before...but I hope he's on the right side next time, and can unleash their full memories so they know how to help the Avengers later down the line.

Sorry this is long had a lot to say. Thank you finally a reaction of someone that likes this movie and doesn't complain about all the things they could have done better or whatever,I am glad you enjoyed the movie. I love this movie so much and I don't care about the hate it got. So many actors here that I love and the story was interesting to me as well. The actress of the Speedster really is deaf and the little scream she did when she thought the one that can control minds was killed was something she decided to do and wasn't in the script. The end credit scenes go like this- the first one it really was Thenos's brother because Thanos himself was a cross between an Eternal and a Deviant hence his skin color was purple and the reason he did the Snap that wipped out half of the earth was to try and delay the birth of the Celestriel and it worked for a time. The second one is with Dane and that sword he has is known as the Ebony Blade basically it gives whoever uses it the power to become what is known as the Black Knight but it can also currupt the mind because with every kill the one that hold it gains more power and it was first used by Dane's uncle and he used it for evil and that is why he stopped talking to him also the voice of the one that spoke off camera is a character known as Blade who is basically a half human and half vampire that hunts other vampires as well.

When the Deviant Kro ( Voiced by Bill Skarsgaard btw ) took Gilgamesh powers he developed a mind and could talk so why couldnt Druig control him? I guess the easy answer is that Then We Wouldnt Have Such A Long Movie lol I think Im a little odd when it comes to movies, I like and love movies other people dont like, such as Terminator - Dark Faith, The Predator from 2018, Childs Play from 2019, Captain Marvel and so on. As you can see in this movie Marvel also have a Superman and a Flash just like DC lol. Ikaris, in Greek mythology Ikaros. After being in prison with his father for many years, the managed to escape with wings made by wax and Ikaros flew too close to the sun. I think thats was what what happening when Ikaris flew into the sun. ( my theory anyway )

eternals is definitely one of the better mcu film out there. it had amazing fight scenes, great cinematography, lovable cast/characters and i love how it ties to the mcu. sersi was such a refreshing lead too. she's not outspoken, and not quipy. she's reserved, kind and compassionate, the reason she's the perfect leader for a group of immortal beings. my only complaint was the pacing, since they were all apart we have to basically recruit each eternal and explain the truth. this could have be remedied if each character showed what they were doing all these years, that's why i thought eternals would have been perfect as a series or at least a two parter film as there are so many stories to tell about immortal beings blending with humans.
@LadyScaper

I think a 2 parter film would have been the best. Most characters introduced in TV don’t get to the movies. A 2 parter film would have been best, but it’s clear Marvel wasn’t going to spend the money on either a series or 2 movies. So Chloe Zhao had to combine materials for at least 2 movies into one.

You can't sleep on the speedsters in a fight. For most opponents, the best they can hope for is that the speedster is unwilling to kill. The DC speedsters, at least, are known to phase through matter, so a simple fight tactic for them would be to phase a brick into someone's skull. Not sure Macari has that ability, but even if she doesn't, you see what she managed to do Ikaris before he got his wits about him. Speed kills.

Personally, I think most of what Arishem explained we're lies. Consider his story about making a mistake with the Deviants becoming predators and the Eternals having been created to stop them - that's an obvious lie. Once would be understandable, but if Eternals we're on countless planets prior to Earth, that means Arishem would have had made his "mistakes" the Deviants, over and over... I call BS on the whole thing.
@LadyScaper

Considering the the Eternals are lied to from the start so they don’t stop the emergence tells me Arishem has been lying to them about everything. He gives no reason why he should be believed now about how Celestials are essential for galaxies to be created in this universe. If what he was doing was so right, why does he have to lie to the Eternals to get them to do what he wants?

@@LadyScaper in some of the comics (particularly the excellent Earth X miniseries) it's explained that Celestials are like cosmic parasites- infesting young worlds with their larva and reproducing. There's many more Celestials, but Galactus is much more powerful than even a few at once.

The chemistry of Makkari and Druig highlights how passionless Ikaris and Sersi are. Gemma Channjs a great actress, but they really needed someone cast against her with a different demeanour to balance her personality out. I don’t think they approached that with this movie. I have seen reserved lead actors before, but an actor if a different type of demeanour is cast against them to keep the audience engaged. (The TV mini-series Unforgettable is a great example of this. Merrit Weaver and Toni Collette balance each other perfectly.) Druig and Makkari were a chemistry explosion. Reading about both actors though, they tend to generate charisma when working with others. So of course they meet each other you get a charisma explosion. That’s why they are so infectious together. I also like the story point that is takes a speedster 2000 years (at least) to realize she likes the guy who has had the most obvious crush on her the entire time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Granted, he is a bit … weird.

To answer the question that you really never got answered about WHY the Eternals can't make things better for people overall, it's because it runs the risk that a world's people could OVER-develop, and find their own way to discover the coming emergence and to stop it. Basically, if their technology and cultural development outpaces their population growth by too much, they could develop the means to stop emergence before it can occur. Such as with non-invasive birth-control, or space colonization. If there aren't enough people in the world...emergence CAN'T happen. The Celestials NEED humans to be just advanced enough to take over the world and breed almost out of control, but not so advanced that they can escape it en masse, or realize that their breeding needs to have at least some control and intent behind it (rather than just make babies all over the place).

Sprite arguably learned to be a teen-ager, but never became an adult. In all the time she lived. It's tragic, but that stage of not liking who she is because she isn't herself yet, has been given to her in full effect. She'll grow up in the company of humans, and age along with them, and may eventually, if she proves herself, become an Eternals again, or if she becomes human, that's good, but she'll not want for immortality until it's too late, like humans. IF she learns enough to considered grown-up by her thousands of years old peers. Seems the problem has been handled excellently. From a certain point of view.
@alexroth882

I mean it’s not like she didn’t suffer too. Everything she wanted she could never have due to her appearance. I think it’s tragic that her only solution was to go through with the emergence and hope that on the next planet she’ll be someone new; someone that could actually get what she dreamed of. Not saying it excuses her, but Cersi understanding Sprite and seeing why she was acting that way is very important in showing Cersi’s warmth as a person and comprehension of human emotion

Others have probably explained it, but to explain the last credits scene and the family history Dane was going to tell Sersi. Dane is descended from a line tracing back to Arthurian times, many taking the name the Black Knight starting with his ancestor Sir Percy of Scandia. Each Black Knight wielded the Ebony Blade, the sword we see in the credits scene. the Ebony Blade is essentially a dark Excalibur, while it is magical and such like Excalibur, it is also cursed to where it's wielder has an insatiable blood lust and other such dark and evil things. In the credits scene the voice talking to Dane is the character Blade, a half-vampire half-human Vampire Hunter (long story) played by Mahershala Ali, who will be getting his own MCU movie in September 2024, and has other non-MCU movies out as well starring Wesley Snipes. the Eternals history in the movie is a bit different than their history in the comics. Rather than being robots, in the comics they are very ancient humans that the Celestials came down and experimented on, developing 3 different groups from the experiments, the Eternals, the Deviants, and humans that were altered to develop powers and skills somewhere down the line, which is an explanation for where the X-Men's X-Gene comes from, but also an explanation for why some humans can gain super powers from radioactive sources and such and not have any adverse effects from the radiation, like Hulk turning into the rage monster instead of a walking mass of tumors and such. the Eternals are named similarly to characters from different mythologies, most often Greco-Roman mythology, with their powers relating to the name and many of the feats of the Eternals are attributed to their mythological counterparts. For example, Angelina Jolie's character Thena, named after Athena the goddess of war, has powers that allow her to use weapons for combat, or Phastos, named after Hephaestus god of the forge, has the power to create things. Also, yes, in the comics Thanos is indeed an Eternal and Eros from the other credits scene is indeed his brother (Thanos named after Thanatos god of death, and Eros named after Eros or Cupid god of love). the reason Thanos looks different than most Eternals, despite being one, is because he has a Deviant Gene, causing him to look similar to a Deviant while being an Eternal.

Imagine if the MCU began with the 1st Avengers film with only 1 or 2 flashback scenes for each of the previous 5 films. To me that's Eternals. It's not bad, but trying to squeeze in so many heroes and backstory into 1 film made it hard to follow. If it had been a Disney+ show of 10 episodes that would have worked much better in terms of pacing.

Agreed that they tried to put in too much. I wanted to like this movie more than I did, but it felt off. A long time ago in the comics, Kro (deviant) and Thena had a tumultuous relationship: sometimes lovers, more often enemies. I'm guessing that idea was probably in an early script, but then so much was taken out in later drafts, they should have taken out Kro entirely. That would have given more time to the other plot lines. (Have some generic, bestial deviant instead of this watered-down version of Kro.)

As much as this movie didn't... really attach to me, just because of some plot holes and charisma, it DOES have a lot of potential. It isn't the worst thing ever and there's definitely a chance for another installment to revive itself like Thor had done.

This wasn't bad but it felt rushed... would have been better as a Disney+ series. More time to develop the characters and the lore...

I have mixed opinions about this one. Almost too much for a movie, probably would have been better as a series that introduced them and then a big movie.

Of all of the feature-length movies in Marvel phase 4, this is my least favorite. I do not like the pacing, not as much humor as I would expect in a Marvel movie, showcasing two men kissing each other, and way too many leaps in logic. How is this giant thing going to start merging from the core of the earth through the crust up out of the Indian Ocean without tsunamis and earthquakes destroying at least half the world? There would be volcanoes going off everywhere, it would be a mess. On top of that, I hope I'm not spoiling anything by saying this, but we still don't have any payoff from anything that it's setup. I definitely do not enjoy this movie.
