The lowdown stuff is the best. I can really feel you following your ear on this one, it's the coolest thing.

Thanks Gabriel! The best feeling is when playing gets to that prayerful state, where you're just totally absorbed in it. It's all I ever want, even if it doesn't necessarily always translate to playing better....

You’re an absolute inspiration. BTW, some time back I asked if you could demonstrate the “Salty Dog Chord Progression “ that I thought you had mentioned in passing in a previous video. You asked me the name of the video so I went in search of it, playing dozens of your videos and can not come up with it. I don’t know where I came up with that.

I did the Eb blues demonstration of "Ain't gonna be your Low down dog". Maybe that's what you meant?

@@EthanLeinwand The boogie blues has no borders. You have seen it at La Roquebrou. I hope to see you there again ... 🙂 Thank you for tutorials ! Now, i try to play in Eb after 2 years of piano and 59 years old. I feel like I’ve lost 40 years of my life. I should never have stopped playing the piano. Thank you again. Your videos are a real pleasure. You play with great passion .👏👏 Have a good week-end.

What makes a Blues piece "low-down"?
@EthanLeinwand
3 жыл бұрын
I plan to do a video about this very question! The main thing is the left hand rhythm and feel. Where as boogie woogie has a pronounced 8th note feel, and ragtime has an oom-pah rhythm, low down blues has a steady quarter note pulse that doesn't have a lot of movement. The music is usually medium or slower tempo. The right hand tends to be harmonically very simple/straight forward. It has a, I think, modal quality and barely follows the chord progression. Hope this doesn't just create more questions than answers! A video demonstration should be on the way, so be on the look out :)
