I've always known Etna not to be an explosive Vulcano. I don't remember the exact terms I studied at school, but its lava is slow and its constant eruptions make it less dangerous than other types of volcano, like say Vesuvio, that bottles energy up until it explodes. I'm not claiming to be an expert but this part puzzled me.

CO2 levels have been so low that the growth of many kinds of green plants has been seriously stunted. The increase while still only a truly tiny percentage of the atmosphere has helped increase food production/plant growth hugely.

@Bartolomé Molloy Why Vesuvius?
@alicesacco9329
4 жыл бұрын
@Bartolomé Molloy It has a VEI of 6, but is far from the most powerful. In Italy we have at least 5 volcanoes with a VEI of 7, of these one is classified as supervolcano.

@Bartolomé Molloy Vesuvius is 6, too, and it can do such eruption more often than Etna (4-5 VEI 6 eruptions in 25.000 years VS two VEI-6 eruptions in 64.000 years). Yes, Vesuvius is a more common volcano, but is because it is younger (is geologically a child volcano). The only volcano in Italy that rated 5 was Vulture. Also we have at least 5 VEI-7 still active volcanoes: Pantelleria, Phlegreaean fields, Ischia, Alban Hills and Vulsini
