Hi everyone, it's Evangeline and today we'll be taking a look at the Rhino-Rack dome 1300 awning right here at etrailer. So we have a bunch of different awning options for you for different types of adventures. So the main reason you might be looking for an awning is maybe you want some shade, maybe you want some privacy. Maybe you just wanna set up your camp, make that space yours and have a place to relax or get ready for your adventures. So depending on your situation, you might want something different. Now this is a specifically more universal awning.
It is very versatile. You can mount it to your crossbars in different ways, plus it's super easy to set up. So we'll talk about those features. We are gonna focus on how you can make this yours. Now the dome shape helps out a lot with headroom.
So I'm 5'2" on a good day, I can reach to a little bit over 6". And this does depend on how you have this set up. But even if you're on the taller side, you can reach. I still can't reach the top from the center. So not only is the doME good for headroom but it also works great with your hatches.
So this is what the awning will look like if you mount it off of the rear of your vehicle or off your rear crossbar. Now with it in this position, some key things to think of is where does your rear crossbar sit Do you want other accessories above it 'Cause it will take up some space. And while you are able to open up your hatch, you also lose a little bit of the actual awning space because it's covering half of your vehicle. But you can also see how this is very helpful for SUVs as well as trucks. If you wanna hang out in your hatch and leave the hatch door open, you can do so for people in their truck beds and having it off their ladder rack.
They can hang out on the tailgate and still have a little bit of shade. So take full advantage of the off the rear crossbar position. Definitely take a look at the extensions where we can add the walls to it and that way you just create a little room off the back of your car. Now the awning is made of a rip stop polycotton canvas. So that's gonna mean that it's UV, mold and water resistant. Now with its water resistance, you can see that as the water pours down, it just slides down the awning. So with it angled the way it is, it'll pull a little bit but most of the water should be fed out towards the end and nothing is coming through. From underneath, I don't feel any moisture. So it's nice to know if a quick rainstorm kicks up I will be safe underneath, that doesn't mean that the water can't come in through the side though if the winds are heavy. So that's something to be mindful of. Also, worth considering taking a look at the extension walls. So while the support poles are made of fiberglass for the tent structure, your poles as well as your frame is made of aluminum. So that way, even if it is outside this will help resist corrosion. It really is designed to just be out in the elements. Now it's perfectly fine to leave it on your car for extended periods of time just don't go through a car wash. This is designed with a PVC cover to go around it just to help protect it from the elements. I did drive around with it in the off the back position and I could feel a noticeable change in wind drag. Not so much wind noise, but definitely caught the wind. This is the more aerodynamic position if that makes a difference for how you're gonna carry it. So while the PVC cover is water resistant, not the entire cover is, so you do have the zippers where there's a seam where water can come through. The good news is that they're facing down so the water should just run off of it. So this kit will include your guidelines, your support poles, your awning and the mounting hardware. Depending on how you have it mounted though, you may need some other things. The main thing to grab is your 13 millimeter wrench to tighten down the bolts for most situations. And a crossbar or Pioneer platform that has a T track to slide the hardware through. If you have just a crossbar without any track system, this actually will not work for you. It has to slide through those tracks. So what kind of crossbars do you have and are they ready for the awning to be installed So if you have the Rhino-Rack vortex bars you have to start by taking off the vortex strips. If you're using a ladder rack, just double check that the track is clear above or underneath. If you're installing this off to the back you could move your crossbars towards the back, things like that. Onc
