Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the best spare tire mounted bike racks for the Jeep Wrangler. Here we have from Yakima, the spare ride. Here's the Tooley, spare me. And from Hollywood Racks, we have the SR1. Now, all the bike racks we have here have been designed to work with a very wide range of Wrangler Jeeps. Now, the biggest fitment issue that you're typically going to have is with really large oversized tires. All of our racks are designed to work with the 33/12/50 size.
Not too much over that. The HR1, from Hollywood Racks, does extend out to 13 and a half inches but, typically, your tire sizes go from 12 and a half, then kind of back up to the 15, 15 and a half. Those sizes. Now, we can go over some of the similarities and differences in our racks. All the racks that we have here today are designed to work with two bikes. So, you can ...
you and a partner, put your bikes on there and hit the road. All of our racks are designed with folding arms. So, instead of those arms staying extended out, we're able to tuck them down and out of the way. The Yakima, and Tooley, those are going to rotate down. With our Hollywood racks, we're going to lift, and rotate those over to the side.
So, not much of a difference there. Just slightly different operation.Another difference you're going to see with the Hollywood racks is compared to the Yakima or the Tooley, is how it's going to mount to the spare tire. This is going to use a bracket that comes around the backside of the spare tire. We'll have a bolt on each side here that we tighten down. That's going to sandwich that tire, and then with a couple straps that go around the back, we're able to get everything nice and secure. The Tooley and Yakima are both going to use a plate system.
So, there's a plate that you mount in behind the spare tire, and when the rack's removed you really don't have any issues with just leaving it on there. So, you can easily put your rack on and off. Those give you a very steady, secure, and stable mounting point each time. Here on the Yakima you can get an idea of what we're talking about. You can see how we've got the more silver looking portion here. That's going to stay attached to the vehicle if you choose. You don't have to worry about taking it on and off. Then, with the long bolt through our handle here, it's going to thread right into that, and pull that into the tire. That, again, going to give us a really nice, stable mounting platform.Security is also another area where we have differences in our racks. With our Yakima, it's going to come with a cable lock that we can draw around both of our bikes. Then, run it through the nice, heavy duty, bracket here. That's going to secure our bikes to the rack. Then, we have a key here. It's going to use the same key as the lock on the cable lock that will disengage the knob, just allow it to spin freely. So, you can turn it for hours and it's never going to loosen up. Once you turn your key the other way, then it's going to engage and allow you to remove it at home. The Tooley's lock is going to be an integrated lock. So, it's something that you can't misplace, or you can't leave behind. We've got a cable here, a cable here. We pull these out of the rack, around our bikes, we'll clip those together. Then, it's going to use the same style knob down here. While the knob's a little bit smaller, it's the same principle. So, both of the racks that we've just looked at, the Tooley and the Yakima, are going to allow us to lock the bikes to the rack. Then, the rack to the vehicle. Now, with the Hollywood racks, it doesn't come with the locks. It doesn't come with those kinds of things. So, if you decide to go this route, and you want to secure everything, you'll have to use a couple of cable locks to kind of go around the bikes, and then maybe go around your rack and through the spare tire carer to help secure that. Now, on the Yakima for the arms and the folding mechanism, we've got a single lever here on top. We'll pull, rotate them up until that clicks down into position.
