Everybody, it's Rob here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness on our 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now our Curt wiring harness is going to provide us with a four-pole flat trailer connector so we can have all the required lights to get down the road safely while we're towing our trailer like our taillights, our turn signals, and our brake lights. Now having a four-pole trailer connector on the back of your Jeep is not only just for trailers. Trailer wiring comes in a lot. A lot of pitch mounted accessories may have lights on, even if it's just a hitch cover and most of the time they use a four-pole connector.
So it's a lot easier just to plug it in rather than trying to cut the connector off and hardwire everything up. That's another really nice thing about our harness here, is we're not going to have to cut or splice any factory wires at all.Just simply going to plug in line with a T-connector behind each one of our taillights. That's how we get the signal for our trailer lights but it's going to go through a converter box and convert that signal to a working signal for our trailer. Now I know there's a lot of people out there that don't really like wiring, it makes them a little bit nervous, but this is pretty straightforward. In fact, we're going to walk you through exactly how everything hooks up and even how we routed our wire.
In fact, let's go to the installation process together.Starting the installation, we want to open up the rear hatch on our Grand Cherokee and right on the inside channel here, right inside of the tail lights, we're going to have a couple of fasteners when we pull out so we can get the taillight removed. We're going to grab a flat blade screwdriver, and if you look real close at those fasteners, there's a little notch. You're going to put your screwdriver in the notch, pop up the center section, that'll allow us to take the tension off. Then we want to pull the rest of the pushpin out the rest of the way. Sometimes it can be a little bit tight and don't really want to come out, but it just means you need to pull the center out a little bit further. So it'll take some more tension of it off then we can start working the rest of it out.
One DM removed, you want to grab the taillight and you want to try to pull back as straight as possible. You need a little bit of a wiggle just to help loosen it up but we do have some pins that kind of help everything align and we don't want to break them. Then we can go to disconnect all the electrical connectors, slide the red tab away, press down and pull the connector out. It's going to be the same for all three of them connecting the taillight. We'll go ahead and set our taillight aside. We'll move over to the passenger side and remove that as well.
Now we need to get our wiring harness up to the top where our taillight connector is on. So the easiest way I've found is if we take a pull wire, I'm using an airline tube but you can use a coat hanger, a string with something heavy attached to it, just something so you can feed it down in between the body and the bumper, and then we can have it come out the bottom of our Jeep and get access to it.Now we can grab our wiring harness and attach it to the bottom and pull everything up. Now I do want to mention, we're going to be bringing up the two connectors that have the yellow and brown wire on the driver's side. So we'll just take one of the connectors, align it up with our airline tube. I'm just going to use some electrical tape to attach it to it so we don't have to worry about dropping it when we pull our pull wire up. Just kind of help guide it up and start pulling our pull wire until we can get the connectors to come out through that opening. I will let you know, as you can see that opening's pretty small so you may have to kind of work to get the connector through. As you can see, it's pretty tight right here but we don't want to crush the connector or do any damage but if you can just very gently kind of pull away on the facia to help you get it through. Just try not to have the tape let go because we're going to have to go back underneath and reattach it. I'm going to go ahead and pull the two connectors as well as the white wire with the ring terminal attached to it up top. I'm going to remove the tape and the connectors on our harness here are going to match up with the connectors on our Jeep.So let's take the female and the male, match them up, plug them in, lock it down. We'll do the same thing for the other connector as well. Now we're just going to plug in the harness int
