Hey, everybody, how's it goin' Today, we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the CURT T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness here on a 2020 Ford Escape. So your trailer wiring harness, simply put, is gonna allow you to transfer the signals from the vehicle to our trailer so we can let other motorists out in the road know what we're gonna be doing so we can arrive to our destination safe and sound. Now, this is not only a safety requirement. It's also a legal requirement in pretty much every state while towing a trailer. So while we're not using our trailer wiring harness, it's gonna be tucked away inside the vehicle here which is the best place for it while you're not using it. I understand a lot of people can actually route them out, and a lot of other wiring harnesses install outside the vehicle.
But for those guys that aren't towing every day, it's really beneficial to keep the trailer connector inside so it's nice and protected. You don't have to worry about water getting in there and causing corrosion, therefore lighting issues. This one here, as we said, it's gonna be stored inside the vehicle here, keeping it out of the way and keeping it protected. But when we do need to use it, it is very easy, we can just simply drape it over our bumper here. We have these rubber weather strippings on both this side and the hatch side so it's not gonna damage the wire.
Just make sure you're clear of that actual latching mechanism there. I'll just go ahead and shut the hatch there on the wire. Now we have easy access to our trailer connector so we can hook up to our trailer. This kit is gonna provide us with the most basic and common type of trailer connector. That's gonna be a four-way flat, otherwise known as a four-pole.
The vast majority of trailers that you're able to tow through Escape are gonna use this, so this really should be the one that you guys are going to need. So the four-way connector is gonna take care of all your basic lighting features, from your stop and turn signal circuits to either side to your taillights. So in regards to installation, this one really isn't bad at all, just common hand tools. You're gonna need a way to strip them jacket off the wires and crimp some connectors down. Those are usually two-in-one tools, definitely cost-effective, something you can get for this install.
We do have a couple panels on the inside we need to remove, but aside from that, it's pretty straightforward. I will say the time requirements for this install are gonna vary drastically whether you have the hybrid model or you have another model. The hybrid models have a battery in the trunk and makes connecting it very easy. It's gonna save you a lot of time. However, if you don't, that's fine. This kit is still gonna work for you. You're just gonna have to route a wire to the front of the vehicle. Either way, this is a great kit, a great option, to allow you to tow a trailer here with your Escape. So the first step of your installation, we're gonna be opening up the hatch of our vehicle and removing the floor covering. And while we're in here, we'll go ahead and remove all of our cargo trays. So these are these little foam inserts here. You just simply pull out. So now what we're gonna do is we're gonna be removing the threshold panel. So there's gonna be two screws in the bottom there on the inside we need to remove first, and then there's a couple more at the top here. Once we have those two screws on the bottom out, we're gonna go ahead and flip our cargo hooks up, take a flathead screwdriver, and we're gonna pry open that cover there. Then we'll take a T25 torx bit and remove that screw. It's gonna be one of these on each side. Now we can lift up and out our panel here. There's a couple more clips on the bottom there. Next, we need to pry out on this interior panel. So I'm gonna take a trim panel tool or a flathead screwdriver. I'm gonna pry that up like so. And then basically, I'm just gonna be reaching along the inside edges here and pulling out to release the clips just like that. So once we get this panel pried back, we don't need to remove it all the way. Just break those couple clips free at the first at the very top. And then if we look inside here, we should see our taillight connectors. Go ahead and separate those. So press down on one of the clips and then pull up on the other. Next, we're gonna take our wiring harness here. There should be a connector with the yellow wire in there. We're gonna grab that one, and then we're just gonna plug all these connectors in together. They're only gonna go in one way. Next, we're gonna take our do
