Hi there, trailer owners. Today in your 2020 TAXA Outdoors Mantis, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install, Demco's two inch EZ Latch Trailer Coupler. This is a bolt-on coupler with a cutout for your jack to mount as well. And Demco boasts that they have some of the strongest composite out there. So let's put it to the test. That's pretty impressive.
And my boss was having a rough day, but I told him to go ahead and take out his aggression. And I want to put Demco's boasts to the test. This coupler here has been on this trailer for at least a year. We installed it on the customer a while back, you can see the plastic has faded a little bit out in the sun, and that's what I'm worried about. UV rays and stuff are real damaging to plastic.
They can dry it out and make it become brittle. So let's see if it takes the same wallop that it did inside after it's had all the abuse of being outside for over a year. And that's pretty wild. I thought it was going to inaudible 00:00:55 for sure, but there's barely even a dent in it. And now let's see it in action. Unlike the old coupler that we took off, with this one here to connect it to your trailer, you first have to release the mechanism, pull it back, that'll allow us to drop that on the ball and then you can latch it.
And you're ready to take off. With this style here, with its easy latch, we don't really need to do anything. We don't need to pull up on it like that. That's for releasing it. We can leave it just like it would be normally it's down position here and we just lower down our trailer.
And as we lower it onto the ball, it will automatically latch into the mechanism. And you can see when we try to go back up, it locks it in place and it will start to pick up on whatever we've got inside the ball there. If we want to release it, we simply lift up on the mechanism and we just pull it off.It couldn't be any quicker or easier to make your connections. And we'll take a quick look at how our new coupler here does compare to the old one. The distance that this one sticks out while it's installed on our trailer is going to be a little bit further. So that means we're going to have a little bit more distance between our trailer and our vehicle. Our customer did already have some issues with his toolbox coming very close to the back of the vehicle. So if we look at where our jack stands run down through our trailer here, where it holds it up, you can see that this trailer coupler here where it lines up with the stand is about, I'd say it's an inch and a half to two inches back further than our new one. So we're getting an additional inch and a half to two inches of clearance between our vehicle and our trailer with this coupler over the factory one. This one here was welded on. You can see there's a bit of rust on the inside there. Our new one here is a bolt on unit and I prefer the bolt-ons it's extremely solid, it's not going to come off of there. This coupler is rated for 10,000 pounds. And if you need to do maintenance, move this thing out of the way, check for any rust, clean up your trailer. If you're really particular about cleanliness and stuff, it just liked the option to be able to easily remove it if need be. The attachment on top for our trailer jack is a little bit different than the factory one. The factory one did have threads inside of it already. You can see there, our threads are poking out. The new one here does just have slots in it to allow you to install a jack with the nut and a bolt. Now this coupler here doesn't come with any hardware. So you will have to provide the harper to attach it to the trailer as well as attaching your jack to the coupler. But it does provide very large openings which made it very easy to put this on. Now on this particular trailer, when installing our jack, we did run into an issue here on the bottom. There is a small jack support brace. We did have to make some small matches to it in order for the jack to fall down because it does reposition the jack just a little bit rearward, which can be a good thing if you've got a truck. One of the things that I dislike about jacks that are installed here on the A-frame is that when you go to lower down your tailgate, a lot of times your tailgate hits the jack.So pushing this back a little
