@kite man Yes, indeed he said that. He also made a hypothetical situation in which, if people call for punishment (execution) of someone, go ahead with it, if later it is proved that the person you ordered the execution of was actually innocent, execute the executioner instead of apologizing yourself, essentially, shift the blame.
@ScurvyBoi
3 жыл бұрын
@kite man Well considering how crazy those times were, I wouldn't rule out it being real. Anyway, the governing entities also makes sense, it's part of the "shifting the blame" doctrine, and by separating power, while you become less powerful in a technical sense, you actually become more powerful in a practical sense, since now it's easier to look like the good guy while not actually being the good guy. Those horrible things that happened that benefit you greatly? Oh well I didn't do those things, it was *those* guys, yeah we should probably get rid of them. His ideas did work back in the day. Now though? Well, the concept can still be applied, but the higher level of education and understanding of politics by the general population have made these kinds of political tactics less effective, or rather, their risk has increased, since now it's more likely for people to see past your persona and identify the "scam"
@ScurvyBoi
3 жыл бұрын
@kite man Mmmh I suppose that is true, still a higher level of education does play a factor, as while access to information is probably the main thing that changed from "then" to "now" education is what helps you analyze and understand that information, beyond what the speaker tells you. For example, a newspaper could write something that uses factual information and spins it around for their own political/financial gain, and a more educated person would be able to see past that. Still though, you are right, it's more about access to information than education. And I was aware of congress and the budget, it's sad people don't know such an important fact about one of the most important institutions in the country.

Quick Questions. Now that Particularists Lower the absolutism of your nation if you give in, can we still use them effectively? Also, what do I do if I have very few provinces where I can lower autonomy?
@danildmitriev5884
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, you still can use them effectively in two scenarios: - if you don't have any absolutism yet (then giving in to the demands will not lower it below 0); - if you have more than 200 development in the about-to-revolt provinces (then the increase of absolutism after lowering autonomy will compensate for the initial fall). If you have too few provinces to lower autonomy in, you can still use this strategy when absolutism just appears, but probably not more than once.

I have a doubt: Accepting rebel demands doesn't reduce -10 absolutism? Because if so: Imagine a rebelion that affects 20 provinces with a 120 development (a ratio of 6 per province). If decreasing autonomy increase 1 absolutism per 20 development, this means that I will receive 6 absolutism. But if I already spent 10 (when Accepted rebel demands) I will lose 4 absolutism. Am I wrong?

I expelled some accepted culture heretics and with +2 tolerance of heretics, instead of being zealots they joined the particularist faction with lots of unrest, reaching 90% right on 1610. They were present across enough of my state land that reducing autonomy in their provinces got me to 41% absolutism along with a few other provinces with autonomy.

Another important thing to note is that now, with more recent updates and DLC, the mission "Conquer new states" grants -33% harsh treatment cost for 25 years. It is a good idea to save this mission until the age of absolutism. Next, there's the age bonus "harsher treatment" you should rush for to fulfill age bonuses so you can get it sooner. Lastly, with the "Third Rome" DLC, Orthodox countries get -33% harsh treatment cost with the Icon of Eleusa. These 3 bonuses makes what used to be 200 mil power less than 50, and the first 2 alone make most harsh treatment costs so small that you can do it in your sleep. Not only does this mean you no longer have to worry about rebels in your far-flung provinces in Asia and Africa, but you can get so much absolutism it'll be coming out of your ears. If you do it right, it makes the "Court and Country" event null and void.
@AwoudeX

You can spawn particularists/nobles etc. from estated provinces, by putting their loyalty below 40 and then take away the assigned estate from the province, causing a 100% chance for the right rebels to spawn, with the huge benefit of not having to lower your general unrest.

So if I have this right, the best strategy is to start as a republic if you can to gain the enormous mana. When this age begins, then give a ton of land to nobles so they take over, revoke the land causing them to rise as rebels and then boosting stability to end the coup instantly, putting a despotic monarchy in charge. Then submit to their demands which gives local autonomy and negative legitimacy. Finally, just lower autonomy and strengthen government. Is that correct?

Probably not. What you could have experienced is that your cap on absolutism got lowered because of either of the following: 1) having a government type without bonuses to absolutism (e.g. Russian Principality, Republic, Constitutional Monarchy); 2) not having a Golden Era enacted at the moment (or having it finished); 3) not being of an Empire rank; 3) not having legitimacy in your country (in case your government form doesn't have it at all); 4) not being a Great Power (unlikely, but worth listing). I bet that the first two-three reasons will be able to fully explain your situation, since you need everything to be very carefully ligned up to get high absolutism max. Reman had his cap at 120 in the video, in part, due to still being in a Golden Era and having Despotic Monarchy as his government form.

Fortunately, for republics, there is a way around -20 to -40 Max Absolutism (-30 for me as the Ambrosian Republic). The Dharma DLC allows you to have a series of reforms to your government. Including "Consolidation of Power" (+10), and "Strengthen Executive Powers" (+25). So even if you're the worst republic for Absolutism, the merchant republic with -40 max absolutism, you can still bring it down to a mere -5 if your government is fully reformed.

Very thorough explanation - crazy to think that it's beneficial to bring on the disaster... I honestly wouldn't have ever done it. Very interesting stuff!

Thank you for this video, I never really gave absolutism the attention I needed to prior to watching this video, instead I just raised autonomy in every province I conquered just so I didn't have to deal with rebels. My gameplay in the age of absolutism and beyond has since been improved drastically, not to mention how all your other videos have done the same for me, especially trade, going as far as to eclipse the people who taught me the game. Thank you and keep up the excellent videos mate!
