Here is a short improvisation using Strokes to generate a melodic pattern played by an EMU Ultra sampler.
I have been looking at a sequencing option for my hardware and spent a long time watching videos on the Torso t1. Although it looks good the price is too much for me at the moment and I should really use stuff I already own! fight the GAS!
Strokes is a Max based euclidian sequencer that has plenty of interesting modulation options and is generally intuitive. It is by a small developer called Cong Burn who also makes the excellent 'Dispatch' modulation matrix thing(?) www.congburn.c... I believe there is now a VST option which I haven't tried.
The main sound source is an EMU Ultra Sampler. I have had it for a long time and realised I haven't turned it on for a while so thought I would take for a spin. It is not really doing anything exciting just playing back a Timbales patch from the EMU Orbit. I will make another video on this machine as it is really deep and can produce very interesting sounds.
The initial sounds are being run through the xone 92 mixer with Fabrikat/Cosmos on send/return 1 and filter/reverb/compressor chain on send/return 2. This is a system I have been playing around with as it provides a lot of manipulation options with fairly direct hands-on control. It has been working well for more abient jams but seems to handle the more percussive also.
anyway hope you enjoy and the mirrored clips of french trains!
