The final of the Eurobasket Zagreb '89 between ex-Yugoslavia and Greece, i.e. the European basketball championship in 1989, was the 26th European basketball championship for men.
Eight teams fought for silver and bronze. The gold was "reserved" for the national team of Yugoslavia at the time. Simply put, the Blues were so powerful at the time that even the Soviet Union, gold medalists from the Olympic Games in Seoul in September 1988, and the defending champions, the Greeks, led by the phenomenal duo: Nikos Galis and Panajotis Janakis, were put in the background.
The competition was held from June 20 to 25, 1989 in Zagreb, then in SFR Yugoslavia. The gold medal was won by Yugoslavia, the silver medal by Greece, while the bronze medal was won by the Soviet Union. Yugoslavian national team member Dražen Petrović was the most valuable player of the tournament (MVP), and the best scorer was Greek national team member Nikos Galis with an average of 35.6 points per game.
