While I agree with most of what is said in the video, the representation of the public opinion in Russia was notably skewed. The 1420 channel from which excerpts were taken mostly interviews Russians from younger generations - in which the war is seen more critically. Furthermore, the editors of the present video have cherry-picked the most anti-war responses from the 1420 videos. In the original material, those are certainly not representative of the general attitude.

There is no way of knowing what most Russians think as many are too afraid to say (from memory, those who did say were mostly anti-war). The actor I don't mind because he gets butts in theater seats and deserves it, but just leave the guy with his 2.0 liter car alone to travel when and where he wants to. Al Gore is another matter because he got rich off the taxpayers hard earned money. With tons of companies leaving Russia, people leaving, exports of most other products hurt and imports more expensive due to Rouble devaluation and export bans, they are in financial stress already and can't suddenly spend billions extra in the military, at least not for any decent length of time.

Apparently, Uralvagonzavod, Russia's only tank manufacturer hasn't produced any new tanks since 2018, and now with sanctions probably can't produce more. If that's true, the losses the Russian ground forces are taking in vehicles are basically non-replaceable. Even if they reactivate older, mothballed equipment, it will be pretty obsolete stuff from the 70's and 80's. Now that China looks unlikely to throw Russia a lifeline with military equipment, it's perhaps not surprising that Putin is refocusing on the East of Ukraine, the damage to the Russian ground forces is massive, and possibly not something they can really recover from in the near future. A lot of the "Russia has X thousand tanks" includes loads of rusting ones sitting in fields that simply might not work. In terms of modern and modernized tanks, they've likely run through loads of them.

Why do people think that reducing speed will use less fuel? At the engine/vehicle optimal speed (usually a bit over 70mph) the vehicle uses LESS fuel per mile AND is on the road less time. I had a Peugeot 306, at 75mph/3500rpm I got 4x the mpg I got at 25-30mph Urban. I've tested this method with several turbo-diesel vehicles, reducing speed means LESS mpg therefore more fuel per mile.

Some really flawed statistics about gear and munition costs here that gives the wrong kind of idea in my opinion. Russia isn't fielding any T-15's in Ukraine, they don't really have enough T-14 or 15's to do anything with. They will never have. The majority of tanks are much cheaper models like T-72B3M, T-72B and T-90A/M, costing somewhere in the 2-3 million USD range, although procurement has never really been on schedule, so it's more like 0.25 million USD to upgrade older T-72B into T-72B3M. Hell, they are even fielding some T-72A and T-72S, cold-war vintage. On top of that, the NLAW which appears to be the main launcher used in Ukraine costs about 30,000USD unit price. It's not like every single launcher is an FGM-148.

Yeah, this bothered me too. I mean, I get the comparison but the T-14 is really just a prototype that gets trotted out at parades. While the title of the video is misleading, it did make me click, & I watched the whole way through. An excellent trasnparrent breakdown of how the wider world is affected by this war, & indeed, how certain ellements are motivated to do more business by it. I didn't realise MPs could own weapons companies, I thought politicians were just lobbied by them. Oh, &, at least, I've not seen any claims that Europe doesn't buy copius dollars worth of gas from Russia, as far as I've seen Europe has been completely transparrent about how much dependance we have on Russian gas. Tell me why politicians are allowed to own shares in weapons companies, I mean any company could be corrupt motivation to puch wider use of a companies product, in both cases, a politician owning a company is just not OK. Jesus, Jimmy Carter held shares in something or did he own a farm, which he promtly sold to avoid conflict of interest. I think the implication is that politicians are afraid of forcing society to make too big a sacrifice to rein in Putin. Not enough people have the vision to see what Russia and China might do next if emboldened by another weak Western response to Putin's latest, more brazen atrocities. There ARE ways to manage cutting off Russian energy, and Western leaders aren't telling the whole truth on that. Fry is pointing out that our leaders are claiming to be crushing Russia economically, but not actually doing it as quickly as possible because they are worried about inflation and inconveniences hurting them at the polls, and because some people at the top find the current situation very lucrative. The last part is a cynical take that might not hold up under scrutiny.

@@neiltomkins4713 Soooo... how we going to ban Russian Gas right now? Sure we can in the UK, but in say Germany its not as easy as you think. The vast majority of Russian Gas is transported via pipeline, and countries like Germany have facilities set up to receive said Gas. Problem is they need to switch to other suppliers which will require moving to Sea Transported Gas. This requires not only specialist ships, but also requires specialist infrastructure in ports to both pump out and store that gas. It takes TIME to build up that infrastructure, in fact Germany is actively doing so. But they CANNOT simply ban Russian Gas because if they do then a whole bunch of people are without heating and electricity. They HAVE to keep buying that Russian Gas until they have the port and ship infrastructure required to tell Russia to get lost. To be fair to Germany they are doing exactly that, they ARE building those facilities, but its not something you can wave your damned hand at and shout some magic word and boom.... infrastructure.... The people whining about European Nations not immediately banning Russian Gas generally have no idea what the hell they are talking about. If you have a way to build all that infrastructure and the extra shipping required by tomorrow then I am sure the German Government will be perfectly willing to cut Russian Gas tomorrow, but unless you HAVE that solution, I suggest you try to learn WHY they have not done so.... Lithium-ion batteries are also in danger, going forward. It is too complicated to source and there is too much demand for unconcentrated supplies. Batteries and nuclear are both about to change for the better. It will take a while but fossil fuels are a dead-end street - natural gas excepted, which will remain important for a lot longer than oil and coal. The developing world will be the last to adapt to electricity, however, so gasoline and diesel will remain prevalent there for some time to come.

@@kingremarmarkov1997 Russia jealous of Germany? Are you living on the same planet as the rest of us? Germany is selling on Russian gas to other countries at a profit. Putin doesn't give a damn. France uses Russian gas to produce electricity, which it sells to other countries, such as the UK. Again, Putin doesn't give a damn. Tbe only thing Putin has said to Germany was that he has stopped Poland and Bulgaria's supply in the last week or so, because both refused to pay in roubles, which they'd agreed, and if he found out Germany were supplying either of these two countries he would increase the price of gas to Germany to cover the lost revenue from Poland and Bulgaria. Germany has a good deal with Russia for that cheap gas and they know it. He was just warning them not to be too greedy. Honestly, you need to undertake some serious research.

As someone who has been watching a lot of 1420's content, it seems to me that the context is a little obfuscated in the section at 8:15, which should be clarified in case people grab the wrong end of the stick. To me at least, the man is speaking very sarcastically and jokingly about the military decision. Prior to his response, and not in this video, the lady (and presumed close friend) was extremely outspoken against the military and called the war a war (a crime to do so). He, on the other hand, is saying over-the-top, blatantly unrealistic praise during a time that censorship laws and clamp down on pro-Ukraine messaging was rolling into force in Russia. It's important to keep in mind how damning any recording of criticism of the Russian government is to an individual. People have lives they're trying to keep intact in Russia, and the sanctions and increasing severity of the police state make any footage potentially incriminating and life-ruining. His sarcasm lies within the threshold of being "pro-Russian" in words alone, whilst it should be very clear to those in the situation that he doesn't believe in it, but has to stay safe by saying what the government approves of. I'm sure that's very clear to some people already, but in its edited format and when reading subtitles alone, some might think that he is serious, and I doubt that is really the case here. It's a very odd cherry-picked sample from 1420's content that feels misleading to me, and I'm not sure what it is meant to convey when positioned after the bribe comment and state of the Russian military in Ukraine. There are dozens of 1420 clips talking to sincere military supporters in Russia who genuinely follow the state media as gospel truth, and if the point of this clip addition is to show that their are pro-military Russians out there, this is bad evidence. There are plenty who genuinely support this war, and they are misguided by their own media. I think this scene has been deliberately taken out of context to spin a narrative that is more emotive than it is truly accurate. I generally really enjoy Pindex content, but I am getting concerned at the frequency of content put into videos that obscures the nuances or greater context, just to fit the narrative goal. I could be way off the mark in my own assessment here, but i encourage people to watch 1420 and get a sense of what is going on. I support Pindex and its ideals, but this sort of PragerU approach to emotion-led argument building with obscured evidence is a little unnerving to me.

Well observed! I also thought his specific references to Poland and Paris made it clear he was sarcastically comparing Putin's potential ambitions to Nazi Germany during WWII, but doing it in such a way he couldn't be accused of 'direct' opposition to the war. The plan, in the UK, is to build many small nuclear power plants. It may or may not happen, it may be one of the rare promises the govt keeps or another to add to their long list of lies and broken promises. Me, I'm not holding my breath. Green, renewable energies were starting to show good returns for the initial govt investment. The current political party, that has been in power for 12 years, cut back investment drastically. Not because of possible future investment in the nuclear sector, but because, I suspect, green energies were a financial threat to their friends and political donors in the oil and gas field sectors, as no mention was made about reactors, until two years ago, when green energy provision went above 50% of our usage...in other words the public were showing a preference for green solutions to fossil fuels.

Car free Sundays in cities is hardly ambitious. Beyond emergency services, deliveries and for the disabled and elderly to move around, we do not need cars in cities. Their removal would drastically reduce fuel requirements, clean up the air, reduce traffic related deaths (which are far higher than you probably think) and as anyone who’s been in a pedestrianised city centre knows make the environment more pleasant. The streets used to be a place for people, not cars. Moves are already being made in this direction in many cities across the world. The only people that stand to lose are car manufacturers, fuel providers and boy racers. Increased footfall will provide much needed help to decaying high streets; shops cafes and restaurants are far more likely to be visited by pedestrians. Get cars to fuck!

There's a lot of emphasis on the move to electric cars. But most of the expense from fossil fuels is not cars, but building heating. We aren't making that easier by building skyscrapers of glass, even today. It is much harder to retrofit an inefficient building that will last 100 years, compared to a car that dies within a decade.

This video is a well packaged message, wrapping lies in the suffering of Ukrainians under the shroud of benevolence and righteousness. On average EU countries get 30% of their total energy from Russia, yet we have 50-100% price increases. EU countries use 2-8% of their energy for transportation, 30% of that is ~1.5%, explain how halving that is significant and how it isnt pure social engineering. Gas prices doubled, since we have 60% tax on fuel in scandi countries it nets my govt a sweet 150mil € a month on the backs of the already struggling average person. Some here driving to work have spent 800€/month on gas, 500€ of that is tax. Fuel price increases are insignificant vs the theft through taxation. Next I expect subsidies to control who can afford to do business and go to work.
