To empower women to become leaders of a stronger rural Europe with equality at its core, The European Leadership Academy created a unique experience: the Women’s Academy for Rural Innovation. This groundbreaking programme helps equip women with the skills they need to shape the digital age from the beauty of their own villages.
The Academy’s inaugural edition took place from 23 to 28 October among the stunning landscapes of Castilla y León in Spain. It gathered talented women from 15 different European rural areas, all looking to make an impact in their own way. The six-day programme offered a perfect balance of masterclasses and team projects, active learning and group workshops, as well as themed cultural experiences. The participants learned about gender equality, sustainability and rural economics, and explored how they can be agents for change in their region.
These driven #RuralChangeMakers learned from the expert speakers, such as Iratxe García Pérez, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Margaret Bateson-Missen, Pilar Alegría, Mary Coughlan, Aleksandra Przegalińska and many others. In stimulating programme sessions, they had a chance to join panel discussions, exchange views with mentors and work on projects with their peers.
The students came away with a clearer vision for the future, inspiration and knowledge they need to make a difference, and a network of extraordinary women to count on for a lifetime of support and friendship.
