I'm French... and Breton like the 4 members of Alavn & Ahez. I found your very first reaction so hard & rough towards the band. But the very first perfomances showed some obvious defects and shortfalls in vocal merge and consistency between the boy and the girls. Moreover your negative feedback about the National selection performance encouraged some stupid people (true dumbasses) to tell complete wrong things and express tough jealousy (cf. unjustified artistic comparison with Tanxugueiras). I was stunned to read some unwelcome words in the comments on your channel and elsewhere. By the way, the band 4 members are serious & hard-working. I know that Alvan reads comments on the web regularly. All of them have heard the negative critics about their vocals and the staging. They worked and improved a lot. They are honest & authentic in their way of participating in Eurovision. They represent not only a country but also the Celtic Culture this year. A lot of Irish, Scottish, Welsh & even Gallician people support them strongly. All celtic people from different countries can feel the celtic vibes together in "Fulenn". As a breton myself I'm so happy to see my native region be present at ESC. The band has now got some fans worldwide. The staging matches the meaning of lyrics completely: the song tells a story about magic & (soft) witchcraft conveying old pagan spirituality that existed in Brittany earlier than christianism. Green colour that is so present is a way of representing nature that played a great role then: oak trees were sacred in old Breton spirituality. Spirits of trees were sometimes asked questions and seen as common divinities. "Fulenn" refers to an old legend about a maiden who enjoyed dancing with boys at parties. But at a night party in the depths of woods, she met the Devil who appeared under the features of a handsome young man. The girl was casted a spell on her by the Devil who made her dance until dawn... taking her soul at once. This last part isn't told in the song. More especially, the song lyrics stress on a young woman's strong will of freedom at a time when expressing a free behaviour for any female person was seen negatively. The 3 girls of the band have always insisted on that point: the song first of all celebrates whole feminity whatever others can think about it. I think the lonely female dancer who may be sexually suggestive sometimes can make us refer to this a little.

I've read your comment in full - I'm glad you're passionate about France's entry. I have to say though, you can't place the weight of those negative comments onto my shoulders because I gave some critique about the French NF performance. There were vocal mistakes, and harmonic mistakes which should have been highlighted. My reviews are intended to be fair and balanced. It makes me upset to hear people tell me I 'encourage' negative comments when I've always been someone who promotes anti-bullying, fairness and respect. France have really improved their performance and the rehearsal clip looks very very good. I just hate to think that I've given that impression.

The Big 5's game is particularly strong this year, but I'm one of the few that tends to like most of what they send anyway, even if it's not a particularly strong song (case in point, I didn't mind Germany between 2015-2017, although I see why they all got bottom 2, and France 2007 is one I keep coming back to and is my mum's personal all-time fave of eurovision - says a lot, I guess!) - France: I thought they'd sort it out, and I'm glad that they did. And they stuck to a similar staging to the NF, which was already good. Let's go Breizh! - Italy: Again, not many changes to presentation (as far as the camerawork allowed), and they're sounding perfect. Strangely, some forums are presenting it less positively, but I can't say I see why that is, and it's still very much a threat for the victory. UK: Does that mean we won't have cheapo demo video game graphic, very bottom-of-the line IKEA range plastic spaceships? OH NOOOO!!! But yeah, this is SOOOO much better than usual, three cheers!! Wishing you guys well, and I expect some good points to come from Malta too ^^ Spain: I think this was the first time we've heard you say "YAAAS KWEEN, SLAYY!!" and it wasn't even your own reaction 🤣 My thoughts are largely unchanged, great performance and well-written, but not my cup of tea, although still wish them well. Germany: Nothing to add, it looks fine, but the song really is plain. Was für 'ne Schade :(

I'm actually surprised I like Spain that much because I don't usually really enjoy that kind of song lyrics or choreos, but she's so good at what she does and so talented that I'm super hyped for her ! I find it a bit hypocritical to criticize her for sexualising herself when big pop female artists have done that for years, but that's just my opinion and as you said, she can do whatever she wants ! Italy is also one of my faves, France is super interesting and cool and I really like Germany despite the fact that it's not very original. What I think of your thoughts Rachel are: for me slightly unfair with 🇪🇸 as in the last decade they have been top 10 on a couple of occasions 2012 & 2014, a bit underrated on a few occasions too like miki in 2019 for example did ok in the televote but juries destroyed him frankly could do great I see them being the opening act next Saturday night which could go against them but a great number and a good song to get them back on track as they and Germany would have been last any other year than last year and they’ve had a massive shake up themselves with Benifest. With the UK I think the shock of last year once the BBC took stock and analysed what went wrong in Rotterdam have decided that BMG made the errors with staging etc. surrounding poor James Newman bring in TAP who’ve managed along with the bbc to get people who have inside knowledge and this possibly has led to the biggest Eurovision shake up for the bbc since 2008/09 when graham Norton came on the scene replacing the late sir terry wogan and Lloyd Webber got on board but at the same time when they made such big strides then like Sam is clearly making in dealing and answering these questions about things that have gone before the next year it went back to square 1 so it’s about maintaining it long term that’s the uk’s challenge now. 🇩🇪 I think are capable of turning it round like they were top 5 only 4 years ago with Michael schulette and Ben Dolic could have done pretty well had covid not ruined Eurovision 2020 so they’re capable of doing ok but if they get just 1 point from the public then it’s a start for them. 🇮🇹 defo going to do well 🇫🇷 idk depends on their running order position in the first half and what goes before or after them as they could get upstaged by other acts if it doesn’t go their way especially since all of the big 5 bar 🇬🇧 are performing in the first half on Saturday night!

In my opinion there is no issue about Channel's sexy dancing, as you said she is grown and expresses herself as she pleases. But I understand the critics because I wouldn't want too many feminine entry being just sexy dancing, we need also other women representations so that young (and less young) people watching see that you do not NEED to be sexy to be successful and interesting. Hi, Rachel! I'm from Spain and I love your channel!! I respect Chanel a lot, she's a great performer and she and her team have put a lot of work into this, but from my point of view the song is dull and repetitive (that's the worst thing for me), and the lyrics indeed are quite sexist. It's not because she sexualizes herself, she's sexy and I really do love how confident and beautiful she is... I agree with you on this, but the lyrics saying that "if she has problems they're not monetary because she's got all daddies "loquitos"... " I mean... that message is not precisely feminist! Anyway, if the song was better I could even ignore this. She could have done better with all the talent she has. My absolute favourite is Italy, they sounded a bit tired in the rehearsals, I hope they take a good rest for next Saturday!!! 😊😊😊😊 I will love to see your reactions!

Rachel, I think this ESC is pretty revolutionary, it is maybe the first time after decades, that all the big 5 present high quality entries, exciting, and they all(but Germany) compete for top places! Look at the UK: it is like the sleeping music giant of the contest gets up again and sings loud, melodically and beautifully a strong classic pop rock song. Then comes France: we get an electro, light techno song performed in a special traditional European dialect by very young artists. And then we have Spain!!!! Chanel pulls out all cultural assets of the Latin world, they present a magnificent, never seen before on the ESC stage dance show. And Italy, well, a strong, bold and genuine ballad with an only men duet, maybe singing about homo love, which touches so many people. Well Germany's song is just ok, but not bad, I think they will avoid the 0 points blamage. And then we have so great ballads, Netherland, Poland, Greece, Estonia, some very good uptempo songs like Czech Republic, Austria, Albania, Romania....I really think, this ESC will be one of the best in the history of the show. I am a bit worried that despite all this effort and talent, at last will win not the best entry, but Ukraine just out of the wrong reasons, this spoils me all the fan of a great ESC year..

Germany: Intimacy. Creating a space. No fireworks, no explosions, no dancing and other effects necessary: The story tells it all: Lost of the perfect and intact, secure world of one's childhood when the world seem to be whole. Grown up reality and lost paradise. Rockstars: metaphor for some great and and ilusion that is lost and will never come back. Great lyrics. Great emotions. Great staging. The "smoke " creates a very dense emotional atmosphere wich enhances the unique message and the softnes of the melody that clashes with the realistic words of the rap. The song buids up to that simple, even though intelligent violin part that leads us emotionally to the climaz and then drops into the reality at the end with a lost note. Great job Germany. Unique, misunderstood and completely underrated.

Germany should've sent Electric Callboy...lol... if not, Felicia's "Anxiety" was *in* that final...with much more energy...really... Anyway, out of the big 5: UK is my favourite (excellent vocal, song *sounds* very "British", nice staging to put the focus on Sam's vocal, classic entry feel, powerful), after them I'd put Italy (jazzy, longing, two voices intertwine together, occasionally getting intense with rap parts, the familiarity of Mahmood *clap-clap*, the emotional feeling in every part of this piece, almost the sad (Italy) vs UK (epic) & Spain (sexy dance), to simplify), then a tie between France (new language, very pagan, driving beat, Avan & avez sound great together, mysterious, ritualistic, raving) and Spain (sexy, danceable, Cuban, accessible, so many hooks, lots of dance moves for TikTok, excellent performer, get the party started), and lastly, Germany (great versatile voice, rapping part sounds low-key like Eminem (who's now in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame...wut?), nice vocal tone, wistful looking back on younger days, simple chord progression). UK for the win! I can't vote for my home country (Finland) so I hope they get through later tonight! Please vote for us!

I completely agree with you about the UK entry. I was wondering if I was missing something because so many people see this as their winner or top 3 but for me it’s just an OK song. I wish I could like it more because Sam seem so lovely and he really is a great singer. I guess it’s just down to personal taste.

The bookmakers reacted to the UK after the second rehearsal. Sam has always been endearing, charismatic and vocally strong at pre-events so the odds were good there. The second rehearsal shortened the odds because he’s proven he can sing a very difficult song (jury appeal), 2nd half draw and the press were impressed with the whole performance which includes a stage change and guitar solo.

There are a lot of female acts this year and, laudably, almost all of them eschew sexualising themselves. Spain is a cut price Shakira and she absolutely is objectivising herself. I personally find it dispiriting and regressive.

Girl, you are so biased because of your favorites. They don hit one single note. They look tired. The staging it is beautiful, yes, but the vocals are totally wrong.

Not biased at all in this video, in fact I ranked Italy's rehearsal second last out of all of these. But you can't say 'they don't hit one single note' as that's an exaggeration. Blanco missed one note out of possibly 64. Not having a go at you, but just don't think calling my review biased is fair. The staging looks beautiful, like you said.

yes they were tired, blanco just finished a concert tour, and mahmood not long ago, guys it's just rehearsals, rehearsals exist for that and improve something. the defects they have had will be listened to again and improved. it seems clear to me that the others are further ahead, they have all followed the eurovision parties, they have also been divided to do the tours. everything is normal.

Sorry my dear - but Italy had the worst vocals of the BIG 5 in the 2nd rehearsal. Sure, they will work on that and will deliver next Saturday .....but Italy will not win the ESC 2022. My favourite are France, UK and Portugal (my top 3 in random order).
