yes it is very frustrating... to see all of these people making such cruel comments. I always wonder why people bother to watch videos if the videos are things they will make cruel comments about? I see many people don't like Conchita. refuse to respect pronouns, refuse to honor gender, say hateful and violent things. so why watch 30 minute interview of her? this I do not understand at all. how people can have so much hate inside of themselves that it spills over into the comments of videos like this. Conchita is beautiful and talented, and won on both merit and popularity (you must have both in order to win - that is fact) and the criticisms of her here are rarely on her talent or lack thereof. they are all on her appearance. I have not seen any comments here on what she actually has to say. are people watching the interview? listening to her? if not, then why did they come here? they need to fuck off.

Damn what has Europe come to ? Praising a talented singer and song writer and allowing equal opportunities to those who don't conform to unnecessary societal standards. God, where have our moral values gone ? Trying to make life better for everyone and not just natural born conformists. Wow, we really have lost our ways ever since the good old fashioned morally upright days of the Holocaust. Seriously people, do you realize how pathetic you sound ? I don't know about the world, but Europe has gone from World War II to an individual who happens to be a good singer winning the Eurovision song contest. If this really threatens you so much then you need to sit down and rethink why you consider her so offensive. Simply because something is outside of the established norms, doesn't mean it's immoral or evil. Her message is to do as you wish, pursue your happiness so long as it isn't to the detriment of others. Oh my god, how evil. Pathetic backwards bigoted mentalities.

This comments section perfectly describes the message she's trying to send out to people. You can keep on hating all you want, it won't change a thing what so ever. You can judge her appearance and gender till your fingers bleed, still won't change a thing. In the end, she is still a musician, and I must say, a very talented musician, and that's the only thing that should matter and be judged. But most of all, she is still a human being. So keep your shallow opinions and blind hatred to yourselves, and have some respect, not towards her even, but towards yourselves to begin with.

Everyone's opinion is acceptable. But as far as I am concerned we live in a world where society must accept each person with his or her particularities. She is talented and don't tell me that she is not because she just has a beard. It's her right to have a beard and she seems to like it! No one is going to tell her to shave it and I admire Austria for choosing this person to represent his country in Eurovision. Its not a she its a he.This guy just confirms what everybody knows already....the Eurovision is a laughing stock. If he`s a drag artist he could have at least ditched the beard because lets be honest it looks fucking stupid. He`s just appeared in the Eurovision final dressed as a woman with a beard. The Eurovision has become a comedy and in the past its been accused being a laughing stock. I`m sorry but this guy does the Eurovision no favours and you know what I bet he wins the Eurovision because nobody wants to be accused of being against men who act a dress like women. Someone should tell him the truth and tell him he looks ridiculous dressed as a women with a beard. That's the problem with todays world people are scared to say things in case they are accused of being a bigot, racist or homophobic. Look what happens when nobody says anything...a man with a beard dressed as a woman in the Eurovision final....the Eurovision is finish...each year less and less people watch it because it is a laughing stock.

trueblue374 There are different kinds of drag dipshit. It's an part form, it doesn't have to just be a man dressed as a woman. The beard seems like its art of a more gender-ambiguous drag. If people don't want to be accused of being bigots maybe they should, oh, i don't know, NOT BE BIGOTS. If she doesn't win it doesn't mean that the judges were bigots, its means that her song wasn't the best song. Regardless of what you might think, people who aren't bigots don't magically lose all logic. Some people are idiots but not most. You seem to be though if you are actually as narrow-minded and have as ill thought out opinions as your post makes you seem.

Conchita isn't the disgusting thing there, the people commenting utter bullshit about her are what's disgusting. This is why I hate our world nowadays, you are all discriminating and throwing a load of insults at an amazing woman with an awesome voice! I don't care if it's a man dressed as a woman, if she wants to be a woman, she IS a woman, and if she wants to be both, that's also fine, because we have all have a right to be whoever we want to be. I hate how some of you even have the nerve to say that she only won because of the beard! When I first listened to her Eurovision song, I wasn't even looking at the screen, I didn't know it was a bearded lady, I wanted the SONG to win because I thought it was beautiful, and it is called the Eurovision SONG contest after all! Austria had my vote as soon as I heard that song. I also can't believe how a lot of you people say Europe is being ruined because she won it, she's not the one ruining it, it's discriminating people like you who are ruining it. There's no need for any of that in our world, it's almost as bad as the russians and their fucked up laws about being gay. I honestly just can't believe how a lot of you people don't accept somebody for being different and unique, for being who they are!

michaeldimmickjr Well, that all depends if you are a religious, I'm personally an atheist, and I don't like the idea of religion whatsoever, but whatever floats your boat. In my opinion, everyone is beautiful, no matter who they choose to be, and isn't God supposed to love everyone regardless on who they choose to be? I can't honestly see how being unique and standing out from the crowd is a sin or a bad thing, it's awesome, if everyone in the world were the same, if everyone in the world followed one religion and did the same stuff, the world would honestly be a very boring world to live in, having people like Conchita, or just any other person that stands out from a crowd, makes the world bright and colourful and different, and hey, we shouldn't be growing up in a world where different is a bad thing for people to be, because it isn't, if you are different, and who you are, who you are in your soul, then you are a great person. Gender to me, isn't decided by what the genitalia is, to me, it's decided by your soul. Which is one of the only things I believe about Christianity and the bible, that we all each have an individual soul within us, and each one of those souls are precious and different in their own ways. If people like Conchita chose to live their lives, ignoring what their soul is, and just listened to stereotyping and rules, they would be ignoring who they really are, and I doubt that this God, would want his creations to abandon their souls. God is supposed to love all.

Well, he or she will surely have to deal with a lot of comments, although she's human like all of us. BUT, he's a trans singer who looks like a girl but has a big beard and moustache and sings in an European contest which thousands and thousands of children watch and may be influenced into thinking it is normal. I have absolutely nothing with trans, but honestly, usually, with these people, there are deep and quite abnormal psychological or biological reasons they had to cope with, and if there is no one else to represent a country in an european contest except such a guy, well, at least shave that scary beard! I even understood the Romanian guy from last year, and Russia, but now this one... why, Austria, why? ;)) It's not about not respecting human rights, but about what man was made to be by nature, and sending "humanitarian and open-minded" messages through less shocking and so unnatural examples (he strives to copy females... and has beautiful features anyway, so why didn't he chose to remain a guy?)
@KittyNoNo

Katja It's good that parents want the best for their kids. However, the "normal" they should striving to teach their kids is a standard of self love, confidence, kindness, and an appreciation for different kinds of people. Knowledge is the best thing you can give your children, and hiding their eyes from unconventional communities prevents them from gaining a valuable understanding of the world's diversity. More people should take a cue from Conchita and decorate their bodies however they wish. She's having a lot of fun, and living life to the fullest. These people here making ignorant and nasty comments are a perfect example what happens when parents raise their kids to be fearful of those that are different. Raising children that are excited about all the amazing different kinds of people in the world, and who aren't afraid of what others think, is the best kind of normal a parent can give.

As she said in this interview: you don't have to love it, you just have to accept it. Why hate people for being different when our whole contemporary culture is about being more open-minded and embracing the new? Homosexuals, transsexuals and drag queens never force their behaviour or style on others, they entertain and perform because they're proud of their uniqueness. The last thing they want is for you to imitate them; it's what makes them stand out. They just want recognition and tolerance. To most people, it's not even their business. Are they singing and waving glitter in your face every morning? If you dislike it, don't pay attention. I actually find her adorable, but it doesn't mean I want to paint a beard on my face.

Alex PAO I'm not going to point fingers, but the fact that you define people into categories that way sounds quite discriminating. Last time I checked, people were just people and we're all considered 'normal'. But by your standards, if being Asian makes me somewhat different then I'd say Conchita is clearly _very_ different. Calling her look disgusting or "SHAME(ful)" is more of an opinion. Clearly, she's aesthetically different. But to find it unattractive is subjective.

@enakfets
10 жыл бұрын
Alex PAO I understand that you're not fluent, but I cannot agree with your definition of 'standards' because I don't believe that there is a 'norm' by majority. So let's _not_ just say. I'll also add that Thomas is not pretending to be someone or something he's not. Dressing in drag and remaining physically male is not too different from a male playing Juliet in Shakespeare's play in the Elizabethan era. It's a character, not an identity crisis. And I don't see how it is disrespectful and annoying. As a female, I do not feel offended or misrepresented because Thomas is dressing in drag, not trying to become a female, and I'd actually love for him to join my gender. It's also not really annoying unless you choose to let it annoy you. If you accept that this culture exists and go on with your life, then it's not a problem. Homosexuals and drag queens don't force themselves upon you, they use outlets such as cabarets and and theatre. If you don't like it, don't watch it. They don't come to your house and try to make you one of them. It's only annoying you and causing you pain because you choose to be bothered by it. That's why I say acceptance is how we dispel the conflict.

Can I just say that I am really happy that Conchita won BUT... I find it really disheartening to read half of these comments for several reasons. For example: there's a guy below me talking about "take away the hormones and the surgery what do you have"... this person is NOT a transsexual. This person is a drag queen. he is a performer, he is an amazing one but I do not understand why people conflate him with someone like me, a transsexual woman who actually does not only take hormones, but live their entire lives as women Also, I wonder if half of the people that are going out of their way to refer to him as 'her' would do the same for trans women. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you do but it's always really sorta upsetting to me that people are so much more willing to refer to drag queens as 'she' and then when it comes to trans women it's a huge debate. It reallllly angers me that people are sitting her attacking him for being a transsexual... he's noooot a transsexual. He's a man that's dressed as a woman who has a beard. I find that to be clever and interesting, but let's call a spade a spade pleaaaaaaaaaase. Stop using Conchita as a conversation piece about transsexual women. Trans women generally spend thousands of dollars getting rid of their facial hair and would never go on stage let alone INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION and dawn an entire face of hair and even darken that up with makeup to make it more obvious. Please, just stop I have so many mixed feeling about this but if there's one thing that's true it's that CONCHITA HAD THE BEST SONG, AND DID THE BEST PERFORMANCE! Let's be real! They slaid that song and looked good doing it. They get my tens!

Opinions can't be right nor wrong. However your opinion is... the typical opinion that most of the close-minded people have. It is sad that you can't seem to understand the message of the song even after you had it explained very clearly.

***** go and ask people on the streeet if they want this kind of stuff, ask them if they feel it's important or are there some more burning issues right in front of us. And then compare it to the amount of media attention it gets and all the money that's being pumped into it. Then realize how enormous the disproportion is, how a small lobby of people backed by media/politics clique are trying to steer huge masses in the direction they don't give a damn about. At the same time they see how the world is on the brink of economical, political and demographical disaster. Now you will know why you will soon taste the violence again if you don't stop. You think what you do is OK just because you're not hitting anyone? And is it the case that you don't hit anyone because you can but you choose not to or just because you're too weak so you've found yourselves alternative ways of expressing your aggression and it doesn't really make it any less damaging?

it's so sad to read most comments. Why can't anyone who wishes wear a dress, woman or man, or a beard, woman or man? All those who are uncomfortable with that is because they are struggling with self issues.
@dodi06206

This is not so. Negative reviews are an expression of self-defense the identity of a man and a woman! And to every man and every woman has the right. If a child asks the mother .... Mom, why do not you have a beard, and this lady is? Nature is not fooled!
@pauloliberato6953

Dodi D Then the parents ought to enrich their knowledge of nature and that of their kids, because, naturally, there are women who grow beards and men who don't. Maybe reading Joan Roughgarden's "Evolution's Rainbow" would be a good start.

Just so everyone understands, she used to be a man. She is a transgender and there is nothing wrong with it, what so ever. And she has grown a beard to show you don't have to look like a woman to be one. You can be who you wish. She is an extremely inspirational woman.

Just to clear up some peoples confusion on Wikipedia Ms Conchita Wurst (Real name is Thomas Neuwirth) is classified as a drag queen and 'he' pronouns are used. The persona. Ms Conchita Wurst is his drag name. My initial thought was he was transgendered but he does not classify himself as trans so we should respect this. I think personally he is fab! Such a positive icon especially for the LGBT Community! x

"Now I'm gonna get y'all" "Thank you for your attention" "What is 'NORMAL'?" This lady is a revelation. She's transcendent and beyond. But the most amazing thing I found from this interview is how perfectly right her state of mind is about what is her goal from putting herself out there with such courage and passion: to get people talk and think. Now I can sit back, relax and enjoy the post-Conchita Wurst world and not to worry more and more "attention" she's gonna get will bring her down cause SHE'S GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT. Welcome to post-Conchita Wurst era, world.

She won because she was one of the rare artists there who really conveyed the song, she sang it veeery emotionally and you can see that she really knows what she's singing about. You can see that she went through hard times and knows what pain is and at the same time she kept a very gentle heart. And this is exactly what makes a good artist. The other women there just put on a really fake smile the whole time and tried to make party while singing really random songs with an average voice you cant even compare them to conchita who was totally into the song. My mom hated her first and called her a freak but when she heard her sing she was blown away. She really deserved to win. Also the way she reacted when she won and the speech she held showed what a great person she is and she really really deserves it.

Very impressed with her. Calling her a drag act is really missing the point, she is something new, a reinvention and expression of a very mature gender identity that does not fall into the basic male/female divide. It just goes to show how men try to 'own' women through their appearance, as if it's all just for them: They are so offended that she takes elements of the feminine and masculine and owns them, in a way that makes her appearance HERS, and not an object for their gratification. This isn't to say she isn't attractive, she is truly beautiful, in the way she carries her gender/s, and for her strength of character, and for her looks.

She is actually so beautiful, When you get used to the beard you start to realise that she has beautiful eyes and hair. it's a shame that we're so concerned with looks now that we lose touch of what's inside a person. She is male, but when he is Conchita Wurst (his drag persona) he is female.

What a beautiful soul Conchita is. I love this person. An amazing voice and someone who is saying to the world "it's not about how you look, where you are from, the colour of your skin, that everyone should accept themselves as they like and for people to accept" and to not be judgemental. As Conchita says there is 'more than a surface of a person'. A lovely upfront and honest person who says this is who I am and I am confident and positive being who I am. Love you Conschita and hope to see and hear more from you in the future. A 'conscious awakened soul!"

Conchita, first of all a massive massive congrats for winning Eurovision. But, maybe even more importantly, you showed Europe to look beyond appearances, gender, etc. and appreciate a person's soul. It really is "wurst" ;) there are still a few around who haven't got the message, but hey, most of Europe gets you and it showed last night. You have the most beautiful soul and that is the only thing that counts.

We do need role models: people who are brave enough to be different. Whether it's the colour of their skin, the scope of their abilities, their choice of attire or the religion they practice, every single human being is worthy of respect. And mister Garrett Mulhall, you showed us lgbtq folks a lot of respect. So cheers!

Isn't it just wonderful that God has created people in so many shapes and sizes and colors, and with so many types of personalities, but each one unique? In this entire universe, there are no two people identical, even though they might be very much alike. I was so transfixed watching this video and I admired her so much while I watched. She is so beautiful and loveable. First of all, it took great courage to do what she has done, and what she has accomplished so far. She has fought valiantly, and won peoples' hearts and minds around the world. She exudes self-confidence and there is an aura of self-acceptance around her. Self acceptance is extremely important, and it is equally important that one finds peace within one's own heart. My heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Conchita Wurst.
