The song "Shum" interpreted by Go_A is a modern rethinking of an archaic spring-game with elements of ancient magical rituals. "Our ancestors have always had a close connection with nature, and this has influenced their worldview and outlook. Calling Shum means waking up spring and speeding up the process of awakening all living things after a long cold winter. Today, this story takes on a new meaning. and is in a state of prolonged self-isolation and each of us felt how a person needs society and the need to feel part of something bigger. When creating the composition, I was inspired by spring-game from Polissya and dark techno, "says Go_A soloist Kateryna Pavlenko.

@@stufr.reacts The most incredible thing for me in your review is that you, without knowing the context of the song, fully felt and described it. 08:07 "This is the moment you wake up out of your trans and you just go wild". Yes, after the winter ("trans") the nature is waking up and "go wild". Comparison with the chapters of the book also hit the mark. They say rightly that good music conveys meaning without words, and you got it all! You guys are cool!

Shum (meaning forest as well as noise) is a ceremonial song performed in a dance in which a round dance is conducted. Noise is also an ancient deity. And this song calls for spring to come, to come to life, to put it briefly. Thus, the ancient ritual, which in a way was trance and very fun, in modern times looks like this. In my opinion, this is a very successful symbiosis. Study your roots, it can be surprisingly modern and relevant. Go-A show that this is possible. And this is very convincing.

Guys, thank you for your sincere and energetic reaction. You are awesome!!! 😁☺️🤗 You felt the song very clearly. It is very pleasant and natural at the same time. It is really much more deeper and bigger then just words. It is calling of our (not only ukrainian) roots. Thats why all of us love it. We may just feel it! This is a very old pagan traditional ukrainian song for invoking spring. The Shum (noise) in this song is a mythological personage, the spirit of the forest ( and his name Shum means sounds and voices of the forest) When people sing this song (it calls vesnyanka from the name of vesna - spring) , make noise and dance, they call on this spirit, and he rather brings spring.This is the meaning of this song. The tempo grows all the time, reaching a peak, as in ritual songs and dances of many nations. She sings that she sows hemp. And the dancers imitate sowing seeds in their hands. Hemp was very important to Ukrainians. They made clothes, oil, food, ropes, medicine and much more from it. The singer's green clothes mean the green fur coat of the spirit of the forest Shum (like a forest has green colour of leaves and grass) . Around her, the musicians form a kind of magic circle.And the dancers are holding circles of light. All these are symbols of the Sun . And the Sun rises on the stagescreen too. And then it explodes, crumbling into thousands of pieces. And the explosion of the Sun in the stagevideo reminds us of Chornodyl tragedy. And this means that nature is important for humans, that we need to be careful and respect it. The official video clip for this song was shot in Chornobyl (now its empty town that why it looks like postapocalyptic times),where the reactor exploded. This is symbolic, because wildlife is now being revived and renewed there. And the song itself also has roots in this region of Ukraine. People dancing near the singer symbolize the power of nature, which wakes up after winter and after any disasters. The solar rituals of invoking spring and the sun are not only in the Ukrainian tradition, but also in the traditions of many nations of Europe and the World. And this is what fights us closer to each other. Hope this information was interesting to you. With kind regards. 🙂

Guys, "shum" - is not only a "voice". This word means specific ukrainian folk dance wich "calling spring".
@ВсеволодІванищенко
3 жыл бұрын
Shum - ancient Ukrainian spring dancing game, which consists of two stages: weaving and unweaving of Shum (witch also one of spring demigods, dedicated to plants growth). When Shum is "weaving", pairs of dancers staying in semicircle, one pair forming "gates" with their hands and all other pairs crossing the "gates". When last one passed, "gates" changed direction of pairs moving, this is called "unweaving" shum: "gates" pair creat new "gates" with opposites hands and all pairs crossing it again and game continues, but faster and faster.

Explanations. Shum = Noise is an ancient Slavic god of the forest. Text songs - an ancient Slavic-Ukrainian Vesnyanka - a ritual song that awakened spring. In Vesnyanka, it is said that the girls were walking in the forest and "tore their fur coat" - they trampled the grass of the god of the forest. And now they are sowing-blowing so that new grass will grow, so that Noise does not get angry and wakes up from sleep after winter. At the same time, the girls held hands and whirled around Vesnyanka in a round dance raising and lowering their arms, like swaying tree branches. And when they dropped their hands, they began to dance actively. This is a summary of the meaning. Moreover, there is a double meaning in the video. As the earth awakens after winter, so the world must awaken after the pandemic and Vesnianka calls for spring and the end of the pandemic.

Hi guys! I am from Ukraine and I was very pleased to see your reaction to the Ukrainian participant. Thanks!!! This video talks about a difficult time of isolation. The main character of the video was an ardent fan of the group Go_A, who was invited to work by the band members themselves. According to the plot, a person yearns for communication with people and dreams of returning to his usual life without distancing. For a moment his dream comes true: and now he is already dancing the freckle. At the beginning of March, a competition version of the song "Noise" and a new video clip will be presented.

It’s fun because they filmed it in Chernobyl, in some of the backgrounds you can see the reactor!

The most incredible thing for me in your review is that you, without knowing the context of the song, fully felt and described it. 08:07 "This is the moment you wake up out of your trans and you just go wild". Yes, after the winter ("trans") the nature is waking up and "go wild". Comparison with the chapters of the book also hit the mark - after winter comes spring and summer. They say rightly that good music conveys meaning without words, and you got it all! You guys are cool!

Shum - it’s a name of a god who lives in a forest. It’s from Ukrainian mythology. When you’ll dance for Shum - he will bring Spring faster.
